ACC Media Day 1- Swofford Applauds Recent Football Success
Swofford Applauds Recent Football Success

"Swofford and the conference’s coaches recited the record: two of the last four national champions and Heisman winners; 8-3 record since 2012 in BCS, New Year’s Six and College Football Playoff games; five consecutive Orange Bowl victories; 9-3 postseason record in 2016."

When asked why he mentioned "the dark days" during his address:

“I think that’s important,” he said. “Those were very frustrating times for us as a league. Hopefully we won’t have stretches like that again in the sport that’s most important in terms of driving the business vehicle if you will, and the most-watched sport and most written-about sport."

David Teel, author of the article, goes on to write:

When Swofford became commissioner in 1997, men’s basketball revenue, television and postseason, was comparable to football. Now football lords over all, and its renaissance in the ACC has stabilized membership and positioned the league to partner with ESPN on a cable channel, set to launch in 2019.

Credit coaches such as Clemson’s Dabo Swinney and Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher who play ambitious schedules and recruit elite players. Credit players such as Deshaun Watson and Jameis Winston for performing on the biggest stages.

I agree. Thank you to both FSU and Clemson. It probably doesn't get said enough by former Big East fans on these boards.

Cheers,
Neil

Neil, in your Ratings CFP and NCAAT thread it's interesting how the entire conference has stepped up.
On the football side Clemson had 4 appearances, Florida State 3 and Georgia Tech and Notre Dame one each.
On the Basketball side: Carolina had 6 appearances, Duke 3, Notre Dame and Syracuse 2 each and UVa and Louisville one each.

Agreed. Let's hope we keep the momentum going into the next decade.
