If this is Sankey's M.O. he needs to go. This has been the stalest most blah two events the SEC has staged back to back in my lifetime. A big yawn doesn't cover it. The buzz at Spring Meeting was a two year old Auburn pipe dream that nobody is anything but halfhearted about, swapping with Missouri. It is so much of a non issue at this point why is it even being raised?

If the SEC has some sizzling back burner surprise waiting for us soon then I change my tune. But we are getting no kick out of this event to focus us on the season ahead. The reporting has been unimaginative, the coaches stale, and the sense of excitement flat.

Anyway that's my take. I expected something besides pondering video replay.

Yes but those are centered around personalities. There is no conference news, no conference agenda, no points to stress, nothing.

Should not be. It's a conference for writers and broadcasters to gather, interview some important figure heads on each team, write some stories, predict who the results will stand at the end of the year and do it all in one spot.

The spring meetings has the AD's, presidents and others to set and evaluate agendas and major changes. MD's are about current football season or basketball season.

I can see your point.

My hope is that Sankey is an innovative leader and not just a steward.

Based on seeing some pics on Twitter a while back of Sankey previewing a soccer stadium in Ireland, I've halfway expected some announcement at some point that we were going to start experimenting with hosting games in other countries or that we had struck a deal for a bowl game in Dublin. I'm not sure that would be a good idea, but it would at least show that there's a vision for the future...to expand the brand internationally.

I hope we haven't come to the point where we're afraid to make mistakes.

Should not be. It's a conference for writers and broadcasters to gather, interview some important figure heads on each team, write some stories, predict who the results will stand at the end of the year and do it all in one spot.

It's all that, yes, but it's also a perfect opportunity to make headlines for the league and generate significant buzz.

If I was the ACC that's what I would be touting, but remember the warning giving to all emperors, "All Glory is Fleeting!". The only thing that has truly given the ACC any perception of success was a weak eastern division in the SEC that is still going through changeover. I think that's about to start reversing.

The story line of SEC / ACC will be set after the first couple of weeks. If Bama opens with a win against F.S.U. the game is on for SEC reasserting itself. If they lose it will be the story line that the ACC has risen. In reality neither would be true but that's what sells sports articles. In the second week we'll see if a Auburn with a new QB can beat Clemson with a new QB. Auburn has been overrated to hype this game and Clemson isn't significantly depleted. Tennessee vs Georgia Tech is just plain unpredictable. The Vols have better athletes but no cohesion. Johnson is the better coach.

I understand why ESPN wants this, but if either of us lose both the F.S.U./Bama & Clemson/Auburn games it will be tough to get the push for the CFP later on. Sure they will have time, but the perception will be negative. The press is already pushing the Big 10. Due to ratings numbers the committee will want a Big 10 school. They were overrated last year and the only opening game that worries me is the Florida / Michigan game. Any first game of a season is a 50/50 toss up because you never know whether the bugs have been worked out and new players haven't gelled into their positions. I think Florida will develop but whether they come out firing on all cylinders is another matter.

The games will be fun, but instead of jumping right into what could be year end matches, I like to have 1 game under the belt first. Auburn / Clemson will at least have that.
