Thank you for pointing that out, I was mistaken. But the word "guarantee" remains loaded; performance can be classroom related, attendance related, rules related, conduct related etc so even a "guaranteed" scholarship can still be revoked.

Yes - as I clarified. Has to be a non-athletic reason (and like any "firing" well documented).

LS, do you feel that a pro who signs a four year contract should be allowed to tear it up for any reason in year two?

It's not the same thing as college, but on the other hand no one is preventing anyone from transferring. Just playing that same year. I don't see that as unreasonable, except perhaps in some extraordinary circumstances.

The circumstances of the OP absolutely do not fit that statement, IMO. She's leaving LSU because she won't be the staff ace, and coming to the Gophers she has a good chance to be the ace pitcher. Perhaps also a side benefit of coming home and being closer to high school friends. Those don't dismiss her commitment to LSU, to the point where she should get to play during the 2017-18 season with no sit-out period, IMO.

Please note, all of these statements are *IMO*. The NCAA rules, as currently written, disagree with me.

No, you are wrong - my personal collegiate athletic experience and the NCAA regulations say otherwise.

But as I said, "in general." There are a myriad of reason why someone may have to sit out a year.

Nope. You are wrong. It is rare to not sit a year when transferring.

An FBS school has to have a minimum of 77 scholarship players, so if a school is at 77, graduates 25, signs 25 newcomers and then one of the existing leave, they cannot go out and replace that player.

In basketball there are only 13 slots period for scholarships.

Then I suggest that teams start a robust walk-on program. Whn you have unexpected roster attrition you reward the walk-ons.

Walkons are newcomers if added to scholarship before their junior year. World ain't full of people willing to pay for school for two years for a chance at a scholarship when a lower classification school may have offered a full or partial ride.

Perhaps more of them should give it a chance. Here's one guy who did.

In two games vs Alabama his stat line reads like this: 17 catches 180 yards 4 TD. In four playoff games in his career he's got 26 catches for 289 yards and 5 TD. All on the national stage. Can't do that playing for Furman, Appalachian State, or Presbyterian......all schools with scholarship offers he turned down.
