MyBB Walk - On News
Per Mark G's tweet:
"Appears Harding Academy's Evin Olds will be a walk-on for Memphis basketball starting this season."

The kid tweeted:
"After a long process I'm extremely excited to announce that I've committed to play basketball at the University of Memphis #gotigers"

Congrats, Evin! 04-cheers

Would have been a starter last year. LOL

Kidding aside he looks like an awesome pick up as a Walk On

Looks like Saul's keen eye for under the radar kids and dogged persistence finally reaped dividends.

What are his stats? Looks good in the tape, I like his three point shot - looks smooth. But these tapes all show only the makes and not the misses...

247 article says he averaged 12 points his senior year and shot 52% from the field. I didn't see a 3 point percentage listed.

I suppose we'll see what happens, but I can't remember the last time we had a walk on that turned into a legitimate contributor. I suppose in football guys can slip through the cracks. It's crazy to think that Anthony Miller was once a walk on.

Was Andre Allen a walk on? That's what I'm remembering. He was a good one.

I was rather interested in the other walk on news that Jonah reported.

Castro and Bins are out.

Nah. I mean Saul was the one after the Ouachita Baptist kid, too. That's his role according to Tubby--to find the under the radar kids. Don't shoot the messenger.

Straight from the CA:

"Saul Smith is responsible for scouting many of the under-the-radar prospects who approach Memphis, which means he’s sometimes recruiting high school players who are largely unknown in the Division-I recruiting world. "

And this is a quote straight from the kid:

"After a long process I'm extremely excited to announce that I've committed to play basketball at the University of Memphis #gotigers"

So, based on what Tubby has said about recruiting duties and based on the player's OWN tweet, my statement is perfectly fair.

Saul (the recruiter) got the kid to commit after a "long process." Fair to say Saul's persistence paid off.

IMHO Alex Moffatt was the only one with potential...I wish he was an inch or so taller and had a extra pound of muscle (of course, I wish the same for me too)

Reminds me of myself when I was a jung balla. He's an inch or two shorter than I am, but the same premise: Good shooter, plays far below the rim, struggles to create his own shot against better competition.

Hope he does well for himself and gets a great education!
