Andre Allen and Antonio Burks were part of the Streets Ministries program. Cal donated $1 million to it personally and through his foundation over a 5 year period after he left Memphis. You should know that of course, being from Memphis.

AA and AB had preexisting relationships with Streets and qualified for their scholarships apart from their basketball skill. Cal had (and still has) a close relationship with Ken Bennett, the founder of the ministry.

gotta get that Saul shot in, right miserable?

welcome to the team young man and ignore the haters.

Nah. I mean Saul was the one after the Ouachita Baptist kid, too. That's his role according to Tubby--to find the under the radar kids. Don't shoot the messenger.

Straight from the CA:

"Saul Smith is responsible for scouting many of the under-the-radar prospects who approach Memphis, which means he’s sometimes recruiting high school players who are largely unknown in the Division-I recruiting world. "

And this is a quote straight from the kid:

"After a long process I'm extremely excited to announce that I've committed to play basketball at the University of Memphis #gotigers"

So, based on what Tubby has said about recruiting duties and based on the player's OWN tweet, my statement is perfectly fair.

Saul (the recruiter) got the kid to commit after a "long process." Fair to say Saul's persistence paid off.

The messenger... Lol

RE: Walk - On News
This is a case of a good kid who had the right connections that led him to a great opportunity, much like Laird, Draper, or McDowell.

Evin was a good high school player and was going to play ball on scholarship somewhere small, Bethel maybe? He will hopefully have a positive impact on the team for 4 years, and use it as a stepping stone for a successful career like Laird.
