All this chatter is on the CUSA board, because they know their conference makeup is a terrible design.

This plus USM or ODU and that's a beautiful conference
No more eastern teams...maybe Southern Miss but that is it...Southern Miss could play in the west if there are divisions. But as a founding member of CUSA I don't see them in the Sun Belt.

RE: Could this be in the near future?
USM started a conference with Louisville, TCU, Cincinatti, Houston, Memphis, UCF and USF. Now in a conference with Charlotte, UNT, F_U and ODU.
They are smart enough to realize that isn't the same conference just because it has the same name.

Other than a traditionally top 100 men's basketball program, a top 50 women's program, a top 50 volleyball program and a top 30 baseball program along with top facilities across the board.

You haven’t had a men’s team make the NCAA tournament since we last made it.
MVC is about to be meh basketball league with the cash cow heading out so they league’s appearance will fall as well.
If women’s basketball or volleyball had anything to do with realignment maybe we could address those, but they do not.

Missouri State would already be in the SBC if y'all weren't atrocious at football. Y'all's facilities and endowment would be captable with the conference. If y'all could make some real noise in a major sport, you'd get invited in a heartbeat. "A top 100 men's basketball program" isn't gonna cut it.

A thousand times NO MORE MOVE UPS!
If you think the move ups are so great, go join them in FCS.
Yep. Those last two move ups haven't worked out very well....

If we realign based on geography which is the stupidest way to realign imo
Its the only reason why we are talking about it .. Money pool is shrinking and cost of travel is killing the G5

I can confirm there is talking going on behind the scenes to this effect. I can only hope they will STFU because the Belt is fine just the way it is, IMNSHO.

There is no reason to blow up the Belt because CUSA is a crap hole. There is nothing we owe them.

We're talking about it because the CUSA schools are beginning to realize that their current setup is unsustainable. Why? Because after realignment, they backfilled with market startups instead of established programs.
Just glossing over the fact that geographical realignment literally will not affect travel costs at all. The Eastern Conference will stretch from Miami to West VA. That is not "compact and travel-friendly" at all. The West would also extend from El Paso (or even Las Cruces, NM) to Kentucky/Alabama which also makes realignment for travel purposes a moot point.
Unlike CUSA, the AAC is able to sustain having a huge footprint as a G5 because they are made up of historically strong, well supported programs. If the stronger, more established teams from both the SBC and CUSA aligned themselves with each other, the new conference would have arguably the same size footprint as the current SBC setup.
College football has always and will always be organized around survival of the fittest and the haves and have nots. In order to create a conference that is both sustainable and competitive as a top G5 league, we have to use this mentality when merging.
