WAC basketball schedules
Just saw GCU basketball schedule. Pretty cupcakeish. Lot's of home games vs. nobody's and although not in GCU arena a game in Phoenix at a "neutral" site vs. bottom dweller Big East team St. Johns. I'm impressed. I like the schedule. Rake up some wins, get confidence before the WAC. Love the description of NMSU on GCU website, "The second game of the WAC schedule features a home date with WAC heavyweight, New Mexico State, on Jan. 11." God I love GCU's hard on for NMSU!04-rock

Glad to see NMSU host GCU on a Saturday night for the first time ever.

RE: WAC basketball schedules
Hurd heard some of our outcries. The GCU/NMSU games this year will be epic because GCU will have the added pressure of playing for something. This will change the dynamic. Sometimes when you are just playing for nothing you are more loose. I predict a 3rd or 4th place finish for GCU this year. Book it. Not even the GCU Havoc Zombies will propel them to a WAC championship. My surprise pick to win the WAC is not NMSU to everyone's surprise but it is:
1. Utah Valley
2. NMSU
3. Bakersfield
4. Grand Canyon
5. Seattle
6. UMKC
7. UTRGV
8. Chicago State

The schedule is ho-hum, at best. No spinning that turd-burger.

I'm more confused by your response. If Aggies have set the bar/standard for the conference, I'm not sure how acknowledging that is anything other than respect. Either NMSU is the class of the WAC or they aren't. Please make up your mind.

RE: WAC basketball schedules
First 11 games are at home (yes, a game in Phoenix is a home game). Hmmm. Mostly cupcakes. Then 4 on the road including Louisville and Illinois. GCU is gonna have a sterling record but their RPI may be lacking. Just my initial thoughts. And I do appreciate GCU giving some props to NMSU. Very classy.

RE: WAC basketball schedules
I will say that it sucks to know St. Mary's bought out their end of the H/H contract, just so they didn't have to come play at GCU Arena this year. Shortly after hosting the college 3pt/dunk contest, I heard there were very early talks about trying to get Gameday at that St. Mary's/GCU contest.

Let me clarify. I love GCU's respect/hatred for NMSU. Fuel's the budding rivalry. As far a turd-burger schedule, why do you think GCU elected to not schedule a super hard schedule? Maybe it wasn't by choice. I know NMSU has a hard time scheduling teams cause if we beat them it's a lose/lose. If they beat us, what's the difference? Perhaps Majerle wanted to go the Utah State/Stew Fat Turd Immerrillity scheduling way of playing cupcakes all at home and padding the win column and getting all the Hurd like Havocs all excited beating up on nobody's?

RE: WAC basketball schedules
Oh, it is absolutely a schedule built to win games and get the attention of a general public in Phoenix that still doesn't know much about GCU basketball. I guess there just isn't much for knowlegable basketball fans to enjoy with a home OOC schedule like this. Any wins are expected and any losses are embarrassing. I have to believe H/H series with middle and top tier teams in other one-bid Western conferences can be had.

Based on last year's RPI

The home OOC schedule has:

1 top 150 (St. Johns, but not at GCU arena)
5 top 250
5 300 or greater

On the bright side, you could probably claim the MEAC and SWAC titles

Have any of us GCU fans been saying that it isn't Frank? We've been saying this is a huge step back from our schedule last year, even if St. Mary's hadn't backed out of the game at GCU this year.

I have no problem with you expressing your opinion, but rather than just make a singular statement that literally everyone has already said, offer something to the conversation if you are going to say the same thing everyone else has.

So far this thread, 2 pages worth, has been either complaining about GCU's Schedule or bashing it. So lets try to discuss other WAC teams schedules.

There already is a thread thats been going all offseason on schedules. I posted Seattle Us and Chicago States on there. I dont think we need a new thread for each school. My 2 cents
