Sept. 9: MSU 23, Western Michigan 17

Two years ago in Kalamazoo, the Spartans outlasted the Broncos, 37-24. P.J. Fleck is coaching in Minnesota, and the dynamic Zach Terrell-Corey Davis combo also is gone. Dangerous return man/cornerback Darius Phillips is, though, making special teams the must-win phase for the Spartans.

Seems about right considering the transition our program is going through now.

However, I would not be surprised if WMU won this by a similar score.

What I found interesting is that MSU received 1 vote in the latest AP Poll. I wonder who covers them that has a vote in the poll?

MSU is straight up ripe for the picking here. I've went from wanting us to win to expecting it.

Have confidence Broncos fans. There is no reason we can't beat them.

Their top punt returner from last season is done for 2017 with an ACL injury. https://www.theonlycolors.com/2017/8/29/...017-season

That won't have any bearing on our matchup anyway.

LOL!. If we never have to punt, it is a complete non-issue.

RE: our wk2 opponent 9/9
Here's a homers take on what Sparty did today. Sooooo much good. Only 3 bad things, one of them about Bosco sticks? That was a putrid 1st half of football. His take on Layne being plastered onto his receivers, not sure what he was watching? I know I saw #2 a step or more behind 2 go routes 40 and 30 yds downfield. The longer of the two was overthrown by about 3 yds and the shorter streak was under thrown where Layne was able to catch up after getting roasted, that's probably what he meant by plastered on his receiver. But I wasn't wearing green and white tinted glasses. I guarantee a more capable team would've put up 3 TDs against Sparty in that 1st half.

I also guarantee they don't have the same opinion of WMU football that they did at 5:15 pm. In fact there are more than a few with that nervous lump in their throats about next Saturday. https://www.theonlycolors.com/2017/9/2/1...ling-green

Read the comments below that garbage take. Interesting facts from the commenters. Only 1 sack on a BGSU QB that was generating 0 offense and didn't appear to be the fastest. They played 9 true freshman, they will be learning on the job the entire season. Best time to school them is early in season. Several had concerns about their secondary and D line. Only 2 recognized that we played USC tight.

It's like people forget that they played Bowling Green.

They didn't look good at all to me. If we don't handle them,
I'll be disappointed.

Saw this the other day. They've got us @ 3rd worst opponent on their schedule. BGSU and Rutgers rated lower. I like our chances against these teams on their schedule- Iowa, Northwestern, Ski-u-Mah-RTB, Indiana & even ND if they continue with the mediocrity

Listed here as 4th most irreplaceable player is Demetrius cooper. I saw him leave the game early after his lower leg was rolled on. I wonder what his status will be for Saturday. If he can't go that's a huge hole at DE

I think something we're overlooking in this game is Kevin Johns. He spent the last 6 years at Indiana. He knows MSU. He knows their defense. Not to mention Lester was a coach at Purdue last year. They are familiar with the Big Ten. That experience can only help us on Saturday.

Absolutely that is a big plus for the Broncos, Kevin Johns et all fashioned a tremendous game plan against a school they my not have played against in their careers, they will be much more prepared against a school they coached against on a fairly regular basis. Johns has tons of experience game planning against msu not to mention the rest of the Big 10.

Great point. Didn't think about that.
