RE: 2017 NCAA Baseball Tournament:
Well all 8 SEC schools made it to the regional finals and 6 will move on to the Super Regionals.

The ACC had the next best showing with 3 of their 7 moving on.

The Big 12 has 1 in.

The PAC has 1 in but they are the nation's #1 seed and Vanderbilt will be paired with them.

It was a strong showing for smaller schools this year.

Davidson, Cal State Fullerton, Sam Houston State, Long Beach State and Missouri State all made it. It was a great weekend for baseball.

Yeah you can look at "best showing" a couple of ways. I look at performance vs. expected performance based upon seeding.

Looking at it this way, SEC still had the best opening weekend. Arkansas being the only team expected to advance that didn't but the SEC had several 2 seeds and a 3 seed make it to the supers.

ACC had 3 of 7 advance to supers, but had 5 regional hosts. In my mind the ACC actually under-performed.

Big 12 and PAC 12 also under-performed with two regional hosts each and each only advancing one team to the supers.

As for small school performance, Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State aren't "small schools" when it comes to baseball. Big West routinely has teams in the supers and CWS. Now Davidson with only 3 baseball scholarships is the definition of a Cinderella story.

The ACC definitely underperformed. Clemson had a tough regional so that's understandable but the Heels lost to a 4 seed that had to get hot in their conference championship to get in. Good for Davidson but bad for the Heels. NC State needed to beat Kentucky 1 out of 2 but lost both games. This will set up a wild Super next weekend in Louisville! Congrats to the SEC for your strong regional performances. On to the supers!

Good luck in your Super...if TCU doesn't win it all then I want Louisville to win it. I see us as similar programs who have jumped onto the college baseball scene and need that title to reach the top of the pyramid.

Louisville didn't make the NCAAs ever until 2002 and now have made 3 CWS appearances and 7 Super Regionals.

TCU had only made the NCAA tournament two times before 2004 (1994 and 1956) and now the Horned Frogs have made 4 CWS appearances and 7 Super Regionals.

RE: 2017 NCAA Baseball Tournament:
L.S.U. verses Mississippi State in Baton Rouge: L.S.U. is probably more talented but the two of them hate each other. Still I like the Tigers here in 2 out of 3.

Kentucky verses Louisville in Louisville: The Cats will need to keep from going to Hjelle too long or too often in the first two games. Kentucky has the bats. Louisville is more balanced. The Cats have been consistent this year. I think this will be the Regional to watch. Toss up.

Vanderbilt verses Oregon State at Corvallis: Vanderbilt has dominant pitching that will keep them in any series. Oregon State is arguably the best team in the nation. I say arguably because the PAC has woefully under-performed and their 50 plus wins may be a result of weak conference competition. Still 3 hours difference is a tough adjustment and Vanderbilt fans probably won't make the trip in numbers. The advantage is to Oregon State, however they might have their hands full.

Texas A&M vs Davidson in College Station: Davidson won't be sneaking up on A&M like they did on North Carolina. Davidson is hot but A&M is deeper. The Aggies can't afford to go scoreless in as many innings as they have in many games this year, but I like the Aggies here.

Florida vs Wake Forest in Gainesville: Florida pitching may be the best in the nation. Wake Forest hits more home runs than anyone. If Florida's bats don't wake up, and they've been woefully asleep for most of the year then a few home runs will beat them. I could be wrong, but I like Wake Forest in this series.

Oregon State doesn't have a single game (win or loss) on its schedule against a team that is still in the tournament, speaks a bit to the strength of their schedule this year. They are definitely a great team, but I don't think as elite as their record may indicate. With that said, only 4 losses is pretty incredible in baseball against just about any schedule.

As for A&M, I don't see them losing the super to Davidson. But if they do somehow manage to lose I think Childress will be on a serious hot seat. Not including this year he has coached the Aggies to 5 Super Regionals and have only advanced to Omaha 1 time.

Well we have 2 in the CWS. So far the ACC has 1 in but with a second in strong position. I'd say we were in a strong position for a third but Florida is going to have to find a way to win one more against a very strong Wake Forest squad if they are to make it. It looks with the Beavers are going to handle Vandy.

Oregon State has looked like a well oiled machine. They certainly have to be the favorites even with their pitcher controversy.

Will be a good bracket this year, and i'm guessing great crowds with this group of programs.
