New Record - 9.97
StAte's Jaylon Bacon set a new school record in the 100 meters running 9.97 and qualifying for the NCAA's. This is the second time this year he's broken the record. It had stood for 40 years prior to this season. He's also very close to the record in the 200 as well. (4/100 off)

I kind of wish he'd consider catching footballs.

If he can consistently run under 10.0 then he will make enough money running track.

Echols-Luper made a big career mistake ditching track for football. Had potential to be a pro in track.

We had 2 break school records but didn't qualified for Eugene. SBC reps well for Eugene every year. However, our relays didn't. They had the previous 2 years in the men's 4x400.
We are sending 3....all field events

School records
Men's 4x100 39.37
women's 200m 22.92 (Tramesha Hardy)

I'm not all too familiar with track, so I searched 100 meter times for those of us that are ignorant. That fella does indeed have some legs on him. For a comparison, App State's record holder is Ernest Wiggins @ 10.24. 9.97 is faster than the South American continental record of 10.00, and Bolt's world record is 9.58.

That's a name I haven't heard in a while. I knew Ernest in college but haven't kept up with him since.

That record was previously set in the 70's by Ed Preston who was an Olympian in the Montreal Games in 76. He ran 10.05 and it stood until this year. That's a long time to hold that particular record. Anyway, you gotta love a guy named Bacon!!!

Echols-Luper would have most likely finished 2nd most days in both sprints and long jump. Not sure he wanted that. Had he run track, we would have had a better track team. He was very good and also versatile....in track. He's ok in football. I might add that it's not his physical abilities holding him back in football but his decision making.

You guys made me curious so I looked up UTA's. Clayton vaugn holds the Mav mark with a 9.93 set in 2015. Quentin Butler is second with a 9.99, also set in 2015. Those two sprinters earned UTA 18 points at the conference track meet.

The old mark was by Cordero Gray, 10.12 set in 2011.

Put Blaise Taylor's brain in Echols-Luper's body and you have an NFL all-pro.

Cajun Hanoj Carter didn't make the finals but since he's in the top 20 qualifies as an All-American so congratulations to him.
