I'm not sure how you get that diversity to attend, but all the city schools in this conference have the same problem.

UH's crowds pretty well reflect the diversity of the campus and city.

Well...the school's stats don't reflect transgender, hermaphrodites, or eunichs...so you never know! Err, I shouldn't say you NEVER know, but sometimes you do find out too late. COGS

These numbers are generally reflective of the ethnicity demographics of North Carolina and is what would be expected. ECU was founded as a "Normal School" which is a teachers college. It has always had a larger number of females due to this. If you cant find a date as male coed in Greenville?...You are a total loser.

Being an old timer, I was mildly shocked to see > 80% of all students reside on campus now. Times certainly have changed at UC.

That's only the freshman class, not the whole student population. They only have 7,700 beds on campus, so 80% is literally impossible. Hell, they can't even fit their whole freshman class on campus...we get anywhere between 20-40 kids a year deciding to go to the institution where I work specifically because they are thrown in an off-campus apartment rather than an on-campus residence hall.

I kind of figured that, but still, I think it was 40% or so commuters back in the day.

One of the problems I see for inner city schools is the make-up of the crowd at games I see on TV. The diversity of the crowds for game day comes nowhere close to the campus or city demographics for any of the schools.

Not saying there is a lack of diversity at UC athletic events, but if there is how is it the university's fault? Second, if it is the university's fault what do you want them to do differently? Its not as if our teams are lily white. In fact the majority of the athletes in our revenue sports are African-American. The music at both events are primarily hip/hop (in fact we have a DJ spinning the wheels).

Seems to me if anything the typical middle aged white guy in suburban Cincinnati would stay away while the African-American community would embrace UC athletics.

Not my problem to figure out. If you want to be mentioned with the P5's, the obvious answer is more butts in seats and eyeballs on TV games. We wear the city name, fans will be fewer and farther between the farther away from the city you get.

Cincy is a 50/50 mix of white/black. Hamilton county is about a 65/35 mix.

Never lived in Cincy or Hamilton county, but if they still have the Jazz festival (or whatever name it goes under now) downtown... maybe look into that, otherwise, not sure why you brought up hip/hop.

I would assume with all the marketing majors and profs in the Business College, they have a built in think-tank to tap.

It's amazing how student engagement and disengagement works at city schools.

Using the City demographics for the student body isn't entirely conducive. The university is much more state wide then it was even 10 years ago. There are a very large percentage of students coming from Columbus and Cleveland.

You get a better comparison by using the demographics of the state and surrounding.

Ohio:
White - 9,539,437 - 82%
Black or African American- 1,407,681 - 12%
Hispanic or Latino - 354,674 - 3%

Indiana:
White - 5,467,906 - 84%
Black or African American - 591,397 - 9%
Hispanic or Latino - 389,707 - 6%

Kentucky:
White - 3,809,537 - 87%
Black or African American - 337,520 - 7%
Hispanic or Latino - 132,836 - 3%

Totals:

White - 18,816,880 - 84%
Black or African American - 2,336,598 - 11%
Hispanic or Latino - 877,217 - 4%

It ends up being much closer then purely that of Cincinnati.

So, among US nationals we're not very diverse but when you include non-residents, close to a third are from a different country.
