RE: Sun Belt Tournament Preview: Seeds 1-6
You hit the nail on the head, finding a fourth starter for UTA. Could have been an at-large team in 2014 if we had beaten some mediocre teams in OOC play then. Similar issue this year, albeit only the Abilene Christian home loss was abysmal.

I do think the bullpen is better than just James and Gardner. Adam Meyer and Dylan Schneider both have pitched sizable innings with a sub-4 ERA.

Right now, my biggest worry is Simmons. He hasn't had a good start since before the Louisiana series in mid-April. He got lucky with the offense against the Cajuns and Arkansas State. Coastal Carolina and Texas State made him look bad. Four bad starts in a row don't give me confidence that the fifth will be different. He has a bad outing, we have a good shot of going into the losers bracket. My only solace is that there is a great chance he won't face the other teams ace.

The winner of this tournament is going to be the team with the most pitching depth. Not with this now down to a 4 day tournament. Lose early, and you are done.

Well, you can count Troy out then. After Andrew Crane, we don't have crap that's reliable.

Now team's with the most depth don't have the advantage.

Yep, Single Elimination plays into the hands of lower seeds. Especially those with a lock down starter and lock down reliever.

My guess is Troy or the Cajuns win the tournament, though UTA would also have a good shot if their starters can get things figured out.

Chief, I've got great faith in Hernandez and Patterson. But our ace has not been ace and in a single-elimination tourney, not so good.

Which one of those is Bartolo Colon Jr? That was our nickname for him during the series. I'm pretty sure he shut us out that last day.

But I have a feeling you'll see Simmons. Most worried right now.

Sometimes the Jags win without them. #2 in the nation in walks, #6 in OBP and runs scored.

Well yeah, I'd just prefer it if you forget to show up. Might make our life easier.
