RIMINGTON AWARD LIST
GOOD NEWS: CUSA has Five Players on the First List for The Outstanding Center in College Football for the 2017 CFB Season. They are:
1. Antonyo Woods FAU
2. Dennis Edwards Western
3. Levi Brown Marshall
4. Nick Clarke Old Dominion
5. Trey Martin Rice
But, let's not get our hopes too high cause there are 63 Centers on the list. So, here is an interesting question has anybody from a current CUSA school ever won any of these individual awards? I'm guessing Randy Moss may have won a Biletnikoff award. Is that right? And do we have others?

RE: RIMINGTON AWARD LIST
I looked a while ago at Marshall's and they had a few. Pennington won the Sammy Baugh and William Campbell trophies, Moss won the Biletnikoff award, and Michael Payton won the Walter Payton award.

Tech had Troy Edwards (Biletnikoff), Colby Cameron (Baugh) and Ryan Allen (2x Ray Guy)*
*Only player to win the award in consecutive years.

The Walter Payton award is an FCS award. Taylor Heinicke won it at ODU.

Yeah... Lang Campbell won it for us. As did Adrian Peterson, Tony Romo, Steve McNair, Brian Westbrook, etc. He asked about individual awards.

I am confused. Wasn't Walter Payton award awarded for individuals?

Yes; that's why I included it. I thought he was suggesting the Walter Payton award shouldn't be included.

Its the equivalent of the Heisman in IAA, just like the Harlin Hill trophy in DII.

RE: RIMINGTON AWARD LIST
Actually it's OK by me, if we include Walter Payton Awards because:
1. Almost all CUSA members once competed at the Division I-AA or FCS Level (except Rice? Southern Miss?), and
2. It's probably just as hard to win the Player of The Year award at that level as it is to win the Heisman.
3. And most current CUSA schools (except Rice? Southern Miss?) have an FBS or Division I-A History of less than 20 years to review for Individual National Awards.

I think UTEP has always been 1-A/FBS too.

Ray Guy was the best punter I've ever seen play the game. If anyone has ever deserved to have an award named in his honor, it is Ray Guy.

Southern Miss played in the College league back when it was College and University leagues. Joined the University league back in the late 60s early 70s. We've been 1A as long as it's been the standard. We won two National Championships in the College division (with many wins against Universities from the big conferences in those years) that we are still proud of too, so we get it.

Not saying it should, or shouldn't be included, but I don't agree with your second point at all. Taken at face value, you probably aren't wrong, but you aren't taking into account the disparity of haves and have nots that exists in FBS that doesn't really exist in FCS.
There are basically the same number of FCS and FBS teams, outside of one or two programs(JMU for example), no one in FCS has a major budget advantage, certainly not the 5X-10X advantage the top FBS budgets have over most G5 programs.
Then there's the perception battle, Brent Stockstill could throw for 5,000 yards and 50 TDs and he might not even get invited to New York.

It would take more than that. Doughty passed for 5,055 and 48 TD's in 2015 and was not even a blip on the Heisman radar. If he played for a P5 team he would've been there for sure.

I think if we had beaten Indiana, he would've been there because we would have been Top 25 a lot sooner. Lost Allen the week before and then freaking Jordan Howard just killed our defensive line that game.
