5/23/17 regional projections
D1 baseball:
USM - 1 seed in Hattiesburg (matches up with #6 LSU regional)
La Tech - 3 seed in Fort Worth (host is #7 TCU)
ODU - 3 seed in Charlottesville (matches up with #3 Texas Tech)

From D1baseball.com:
For now, the edge for the final national seed goes to the Cardinal. Stanford picked up yet another series win last week and is one of the hottest teams in the country. The Cardinal has an impressive 7-4 mark vs. RPI Top 25 and an outstanding 28-13 mark vs. RPI Top 100. By comparison, UK is 4-7 vs. RPI Top 25, but does possess an impressive 18 wins vs. RPI Top 50. There’s also the Golden Eagles, who are riding a 14-game winning streak and are up to 10 in the RPI. USM has yet to play a game against an RPI Top 25 team, which raises some alarm bells from a national seed standpoint, but Scott Berry’s club has been incredibly consistent and storming through the C-USA tournament would give them a highly compelling argument.

Warrennolan: La Tech listed as "last 4 in"
USM - 1 seed in Hattiesburg (matches up with #5 Louisville)
ODU - 3 seed in Charlottesville (matches up with #4 Florida)
La Tech - 3 seed at #6 TCU (matches up with Long Beach St regional)

Wouldn't it be awesome if Southern Miss, or LaTech, or ODU found a way to get to the CWS? I know it's probably a long shot; but if I'm not mistaken the last time any of our current CUSA colleagues made some real noise in Baseball, it was 14 YEARS AGO! "RICE OWLS 2003."

USM made it to Omaha in 2009....granted we went 0-2 there but we made it.

That was a nice streak, but now it's been 7 years without a rep in the CWS. We should probably take 3 slots, to make up for it :)

Exactly! Let's just send all three of them to the CWS this year. Didn't realize that Rice had such an extended run after their Championship or that Southern Miss was our most recent invitee to the Big Baseball Dance! Great Feedback Guys.

That '09 season was one of CUSA's best. We had 3 teams in super regionals: USM @ UF, ECU @ UNC, and Rice @ Texas...if I'm not mistaken. Only USM make it out of those super regionals.

Eh, for Rice we also made the CWS '06-'08.

Last super regional was 2013.

ECU was oh so close a few times, including last year, but has never made it to Omaha. They have to be one of the better baseball programs to have never made it to the CWS.

So, it Rice wins the tournament, do we four teams in the playoffs, or will the powers that be decide to drop one of the other three. I see no way that USM doesn't go, but does anybody see a scenario where LA Tech or ODU does not go -- if Rice gets the automatic bid.

At the 2:08 mark you see a player wearing black shorts and a gold dri-fit shirt....that's current Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier. He got hurt mid season and missed the remainder of the regular season through the Super Regionals. He ended up pinch hitting in the CWS.

Believe Rice was paired with LSU that year actually. Lost two close games in Baton Rouge. LSU went on to win the Championship.

I don't want to say you're "locks" but seeing ODU & LaTech unanimously projected in the tourney bodes well. Last year there was concern about our non-at-large team costing us a spot but all 4 got in. Conference RPI is high enough that I'll say LATech and ODU are probably in with just one win at Biloxi. 0-2 might not be a good plan. I don't see a Rice win (or anyone else) costing the conference a bid

So it sounds like a non-at large team winning the auto bid is only bad if they are the reason either ODU or Tech goes home too early?

Still gives me chills. Would love to experience that moment again.
