Eight SEC Teams Make the Super Regionals in Softball.
Texas A&M will play Tennessee the winner goes to the CWS.
Alabama will play Florida the winner goes to the CWS.

So the SEC has qualified two for the WCWS before play begins in the super regionals.

Auburn will play Oklahoma
L.S.U. will play Florida State
Ole Miss will play UCLA
Kentucky will play Oregon

If we were real lucky we could have 6 in the WCWS.
If we are terribly unlucky we might only have 2.
Obviously it probably be a number in between 2 and 6.

Glad to see the SEC doing much better than my hogs did in the Norman Regional. The hogs' losses were heart breaking.

In game one, the hogs tied things up with two runs in the top of the seventh only to let Tulsa homer off the very first pitch of bottom of that inning.

In the first elimination game the hogs trailed, again, by two runs against hosts and national champions OU. The bats were red hot; hogs quickly got runners on 3rd and second bases with zero outs. Then OUchanges pitchers, two consecutive strike outs. The final batter stepped into the box and the moment was too big for her--she swung hard at everything and chased the third pitch and third strike into the dirt. Game over season over.

So how many more years before Oklahoma is also representing us in the Softball tournament?

They take it pretty seriously over there.

They are a very good fit with us.

My favorite tournament this weekend is the lacrosse final four:
1. Maryland vs Denver
2. Ohio State vs Towson. 04-cheers

I used to listen to the Indianapolis 500 that weekend, but then quit taking trips to Virginia Beach. Started watching that lacrosse tournament and never stopped.

Awesome how well the SEC is represented in softball. However, Minnesota not getting seeded was definitely a bad look.

I agree. But they only had wins over two OOC ranked schools of which both came during the preseason tournaments. Their SOS wasn't strong because of it which affected their RPI. And if they had hosted a regional who would have been sent there? N.D. State? They couldn't have another Big 10 school in the regional because that certainly wouldn't be fair.

Maybe they could have sent them to a more centrally hosted regional as a #1 seed and the host could have been #2? They did that in the not too distant past for baseball when they were afraid a venue wouldn't draw fans.

But realistically they lost twice to the SEC's #6 or #7 placed team and the #16 seeded team in the tournament and were shut out in both games. So...

Yep gotta agree on Minnesota, and they certainly didn't bolster their case of being screwed by being knocked in the regional.

As for the comment on 2 seeds hosting, that typically happens in baseball when the team deserving of a 1 seed doesn't have a suitable venue for hosting...which is why it isn't uncommon for smaller baseball programs who have a shot at hosting to submit their bids to host at a local minor league park vs. their home stadium.

Here's some interesting stats...

Good viewership numbers for key softball regional games

I found this fascinating. These are pretty good numbers even for some pro-sporting events. The regular season games probably don't generate as much attention, but it looks like college softball is really growing in popularity.
