Jay Brenner bringing it about GP - again
"...To hear Parrish discuss the state of Memphis basketball, one would have to assume the man fell asleep in 2014 and woke up yesterday.
Accordingly, Someone should tell Gary Parrish that Mayweather beat Pacquiao.
Also, let him know that the Supreme Court has declared same-sex marriage legal and that Donald Trump performed surprisingly well in the GOP primaries in advance of the 2016 Presidential election..."

A pretty smart guy that debated calkins on the radio a few weeks ago. He makes very good points.

I'm not FUT but check out Twitter. I heard that Saluki took that article apart.

No desire at all to follow Saluki.

Brenner is the one public voice going against these guys. Hard to believe a Tigers supporter would be considered an agenda or a Devil's advocate, but there you go.

He's a blogger I'd never heard of until someone posted a link on Twitter. Since then I've been impressed with his writing. Nice to have a different voice out there in the media.
GP and Calkins both had him on their shows recently. Which means Martin is probably soon to follow.

I went to his blog or website after the last thread where he was cited and seemed like his whole shtick is contradicting GP and or Calkins. I mean it's steady work if you want it. I just can't take him seriously when it seems like his main writing/blogging muses are GP and Calkins. Seems like he's latched on to their coat tails hoping for a ride. To me that's his agenda. There are plenty of Tiger fans that agree with him so I'm sure he gets plenty of clicks from it. Also I don't have a problem with either of those dudes haha. That's probably why I just eye roll looking at bball's stuff. If I agreed with him I would probably like him too.

He is a lawyer (possibly ex lawyer) who likes to twist words and make it seems like people say things they do not say, then argue against what they did not say to make it seem like it wins....
Just look at his premise. GP says all that is left in attendance are those who have been there forever (meaning there has already been a huge exodus of fans and all that are left are the 6k or so diehards) and now they are starting to question if they should continue.
Jay Brenner twists that into GP saying something about attendance has been through the roof until yesterday and since yesterday everyone is leaving. So then he argues how attendance started to die before yesterday.
Ridiculous in every possible way.

He appears to make well reasoned arguments and seems a supporter of the University. Why not discuss his points instead of attacking him personally.

Hmmm. I read it differently. I thought that he said that the decline in attendance started with Pastner and that Parrish made it seem that it is due solely to Coach Smith.
It is a fact that attendance started to decline with Pastner. Do you dispute that?

You talking about caulkins or brenner?
Caulkins did that to me with a letter I wrote him in one of his columns when the griz came to town to contrast against little Joey the crippled boy.
Then revised it again a couple of years ago. Total POS.

Agree SouthernBlue. That is how it reads.
I hardly ever listen to either Calkins or GP, but think it's always good to have media who don't all talk and think in lockstep.
Used to listen to Verno a lot on 92.9. One thing I like about him was he wasn't shy about mixing it up with the other 92.9 guys.

Yes, that is what I am saying. Parrish said it started with Pastner as well, and that as of last season all that were left were the die-hards. At this point, (according to Parrish) the die-hards are starting to question whether they should continue to buy season tickets as well.
But, since it doesn't fit his argument, he acts as though Parrish is saying that is started under Tubby. While I am not a Parrish fan he is not an idiot. He can read numbers the same as anyone and would never put himself in a position to say we were packing the house until Tubby arrived. He knows we had to beg people to come Pastner's last season just to reach the minimum attendance.
