Yea...we can point the fingers at whoever we like, but it won't change the attendance numbers or bring in recruits.

If we can start winning again we can change both. Maybe we get one or two of those 2018 guys and put something together to build on.

A big time recruiting class or two can buy you time if you don't crack the top 25 or make a push to the S16 right away. It gives the fans hope that the team will turn the corner at some point soon.

If you don't recruit worth a damn, the fans don't have hope. So when you don't put a team on the floor that can crack the top 25 and/or make a serious run at a S16 right away, fans stop caring. They don't believe anything will change.

That's what you'v got in Tubby Smith.

He's a blogger I'd never heard of until someone posted a link on Twitter. Since then I've been impressed with his writing. Nice to have a different voice out there in the media.

GP and Calkins both had him on their shows recently. Which means Martin is probably soon to follow.

Remember when Angelo Poffo had a small promotion and then aired it on another Memphis TV channel prior to Wrestling on WMC. They spent more time going off on WMC and challenging the Promotion on WMC than they did running their own promotion.

This blogger is looking for a job on radio and is using the same technique as Poffo did in an attempt to get a radio job.

He seems to be making a point that is irrelevant. Who gives us a flip when attendance started to decline?

The bigger point is that Tiger bball is in the $hitter and there aren't many people who care about it anymore.

IMO, that won't change under Tubby. The only way to generate interest again among all those who stopped caring is to 1) Sign a big time recruiting class, and/or 2) Crack the top 25 and make a serious push for the S16.

Tubby hasn't been to a S16 in the last 12 seasons as a head basketball coach. He's won a total of 3 NCAA Tournament games in that span.

We already know he flat stinks at recruiting. Or, for the few Tubby fans out there, he likes to recruit "his guys". Translation: Guys that stink.

Tubby will either walk away or get fired in about two years. Then Memphis will have to hire a guy that can do the things I outlined above.

It's real simple. I'm done talking about it.

Well, the point Brenner is making is just to counter the loud mouthing GP and GC are doing. It's nice to have someone with an increasing public profile do this.

To us, the bigger point is when do we reverse the trend. But don't minimize the affect GP and GC have - and the impact a counter to them can have.

And I really doubt you're done talking about it, lol.

No, that's what you had in JP. There was no outcry or negativity until year six for the guy. Attendance began to dwindle as folks refuse to renew their season tickets.

I've had season tickets for 20 years. This is not correct. His last 4 years were frustrating.

When Pastner threw our program under the bus, I was officially done with him.

"How many were vacated?" he asked.

Yep, it is not correct at all. Going into his 3rd season, more and more voices of disapproval were heard and it kept getting louder from there. Despite Pastner saying it was just a few making a lot of noise, there were many making a lot of noise.

That is also where the recruiting comes into play. People were disgruntled, then they would see good recruits and have hope that the next season would be better and renew their tickets. 5th season is when they realized we could have had Lebron and MJ coming and still would not live up to expectations.
