I'm Envious of Liberty's Endowment
I am green with envy With Liberty's endowment, they could buy 12 games a year at one million dollars each for the next 83 years (that's right the next century 2100).

They will thrive and survive. Time is on their side. And I want to play them every year. I want to beat the stuffings out of them and them beat the stuffings out of us. It will be the saints against the "Greedy Green Gold Niners."

Rice has a nice endowment. But I didn't think it's allowed to pay for sports. In fact, i don't know of a single case where a school used its endowment to pay for sports.

Liberty thrown down money like a P5! They will have schools lined up to play at their home field with the amount of cash they are offering.

More money than a P5 program, if they want to spend it. They have so much they could spend on football, it's like sitting at the poker table with a full house of 3 Phil Knights and 2 T. Boone Pickenses.

Except that it is pretty much OK now with the FCOA. So...no big deal anymore.

RE: I'm Envious of Liberty's Endowment
Liberty University's Endowment in 2015 was $1.1 Billion. By comparison, Virginia Tech's was $850 million. Liberty's endowment is large and growing fast. It is likely a $100 million higher today.

Miami's endowment, which I believe is the largest in the MAC, was $620 million in 2015.

Other G5 comparison.

UConn - $370 million
Ohio U - $500 million
Marshall - $120 million
Old Dominion - $194 million
U of Central Fl - $148 million
Colorado State - $294 million

RE: I'm Envious of Liberty's Endowment
The ability to freely spend does not equate making the decisions needed to win big.

Since 1991 they won the Big South regular season basketball title one time and the conference tournament 3 times each about 9 years apart. Over the same time frame Coastal Carolina won the regular season four times and conference tournament five times.

In 15 years of Big South football they won or shared the conference eight times which is good but six of those titles were shared and most of them lost the tiebreakers. Coastal Carolina took six titles in one less year of Big South football. Liberty made the FCS playoffs one time going 0-1 compared to Coastal's six appearances and 4-6 playoff record.

Baseball Liberty made the NCAA tournament five times to Coastal's 14 appearances over the same time period.

Being able out-spend doesn't matter if you don't spend it as effectively.

Yeah...I was thinking about the SWC tragedy yesterday myself when good people were stuffing envelopes of cash in young men's pockets. That was so blatant back then. I hope aLiberty wouldnt do that to try to actually win some of these games they've scheduled but....ya never know.

It's apparent that Liberty isn't using its endowment to bolster its academics. either. They're pretty dismal (unranked in USN&WP).

Unranked? Yeah, you need to learn how to read. LU was ranked 89th in the Regional South last year then this year moved up to the National rankings. But we are just outside the numbered ranks so we are RNP which means Rank Not Published. That means we are ranked. Which is completely different than unranked. We just need to move up the a some ranks and get to the numbered ones that people see.

By that logic, couldn't Boise St claim they are ranked nationally? Rather than the embarrassing "Western regional" ranking they have...

Its not my opinion its how all this works. Seriously do people not know how the US News rankings work? If you are Regional you can't be National its one or the other. LU is a RNP National school. Which means we do have a number rank but US News just sets a arbitrary number they stop at to keep things more manageable. LU is just outside where the numbers stop. So we are close to gaining a viable number rank.

How many schools received the RNP designation?

Edit; Looked it up. 310 schools listed as National. They listed the top 220. 12 schools were tied at 220, resulting in 231 schools receiving a listed ranking and 79 schools receiving an RNP.

So, it all depends where they ranked among those RNP schools. Liberty could be close to a ranking. Or they could have to pass a bunch of schools. Hard to say one way or the other. Either way, it's hard to deny how much progress they've made in a very short period of time.

220 number ranked schools LU is listed 21 slots after the 220th school as Rank Not Published. Many schools that beat their chest as being superior are right there with LU. Examples of this but not limited too are both GSU's EMU, BSU, FAU, FIU, MSTU. To see what schools are pretty much in the same league as LU in the rankings just start at #220 Nationally. I didn't count the RNP's because it only loads a little bit at a time so scrolling to 220 and beyond is a pain.
