RE: Fox gets OSU vs Michigan and other marquee matchups
based on this :
Other notable games there include Penn State-Ohio State, Notre Dame-Michigan State

would seem that ESPN/ABC gets the Oklahoma/Ohio St game like I expected.

I remember some espn lovers telling me a couple of months ago that fox was only getting a tiny little insignificant part of the Big 10 contract....a few meaningless games. Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh promoting fox as "the premiere home of the big 10" Hmmmmm.....

First pick of the Big 10 games every year for the contract and not every other year like a certain espn lover said on here...(SEC fan)

RE: Fox gets OSU vs Michigan and other marquee matchups
So ESPN gets
2nd pick of Big 10 games (fox)
2nd pick of Big 12 games (fox)
2nd pick of PAC 12 games (fox)
2nd pick of the SEC (CBS)
But espn gets 100% of the ACC games until 2035, is a big deal when espn is dropping subscribers like flies.

RE: Fox gets OSU vs Michigan and other marquee matchups
Wonder which of those marquee Fox games end up on FS1 - we know they didn't pay the big bucks to put all of the "A" games on Big Fox and only "B" and "C" games on FS1.

And Fox's Michigan-Ohio State rating will be a big test of Fox's ability to bring in ESPN/ABC-sized audiences for big games. Fox's rating for that game will be measured against the ABC broadcast for the same game last year, which drew 16.8 million viewers.

Now that Fox has so many of the biggest games, hopefully they can deliver comparable audience sizes on both Big Fox and FS1 and become a serious challenger. Personally, I'd like to someday be able to not cringe when I see that a game is on FS1, and be able to think that it's just as good as having the game on an ESPN channel.

WRONG...
Big Ten- Fox gets 7 weeks where they get the #1 choice, ESPN gets 6 weeks where they get the #1 choice. ESPN will get for instance this year Oklahoma @ Ohio St, which is by far the best OOC game for Big Ten this season.
Big 12- every odd year they get the #1 choice of games. This is odd year, so ESPN gets top choices each week.
I think Pac 12 is a lot more 50/50 than you say.

So it's no where near what you are saying. Not even remotely close.

Great news for Fox Sports. They have steadily added more and more quality inventory to their collection. They will, in time, become a legitimate contender to ESPN (which is a good thing).

Pac-12 division between ESPN and Fox is 50-50 for football. For basketball, ESPN gets twice as many Pac-12 games as Fox, which is why ESPN pays more than half of the rights fees.

That does read as if ESPN gets the 2nd pick of games every week, rather than Fox getting first pick of which WEEK it wants to get first pick, then ESPN picking its week to pick first, then Fox, then ESPN, etc.

That is definitely not what it is though. FOX pays morr and gets to choose its first week 1st, but ESPN chooses a week they get to pick first after that. Based on what we see so far, my guess is that the order went something like this.

Week of: (they are actually choosing weeks and not games, but are often picking for these specific games)
Ohio State vs. Michigan (FOX)
Penn State vs. Michigan (ESPN)
Ohio State vs. Penn State (FOX)
Ohio State vs Oklahmona (ESPN)
Michigan State vs. Notre Dame (FOX)

Maybe reverse order of ESPNs picks or possible FOX's 2nd two

RE: Fox gets OSU vs Michigan and other marquee matchups
so lets look at the 2 packages based on these 1st 5 weeks....

Fox gets-
Ohio St/Michigan
Ohio St/Penn St
Michigan St/Notre Dame
Pittsburgh/Penn St
Iowa/Northwestern

ESPN gets
Penn St/Michigan
Ohio St/Oklahoma
Penn St/Iowa
Michigan St/Northwestern
Iowa/Nebraska

ESPN also gets next 1st choice and I would assume would take Michigan/Michigan St. Fox would get Wisconsin/Nebraska.

All in all, the packages are really close.

It took me a little time to understand this. At first I thought that Fox had picked Iowa/NW as 1 of their top games, which did not make sense.

Now I realize this is a combination of 1st and 2nd choices for each werk. For example, the week when ESPN picked Mich/PSU as the first choice, Fox was left with Iowa/NW as the 2nd choice that week.

Nothing to get exited about? Read the responses to what I wrote trying to correct me, saying the article is wrong that, "it reads" like ESPN gets it worse than they really did. I hate espn; I'm happy to admit that...they've attempted and almost succeeded in destroying my school by minimizing us with a fake non-official label. (non-BCS, G5) Are you going to bust the ESPN lovers chops too? Are you an espn lover now that TCU is in the espn big boy club?

we're not trying to correct you. We ARE correcting you. Your chart was wrong, wrong, dead ******* wrong.

ESPN gets this year-
Big Ten- 6 weeks with the #1 choice, 7 weeks with #2 choice
Big 12- #1 choice each week
Pac 12- 50% choices
SEC- #2 game
ACC- all games

far better than your chart was.

Ok, you corrected me. I read the article, which is shown to be misleading by all of you, maybe out right wrong. ESPN is King, but I will never never neal to them.

The packages are pretty close. The price difference between the Fox and ESPN packages is largely driven by Fox always getting the Big Ten Championship Game rights and there's quite a bit of value in getting the #1 game pick overall (as Ohio State - Michigan got a rating on par with the CFP semifinals last year).

The only question with that is would Ohio St/Michigan get that type of rating if the teams aren't in the top 5, and it's a de facto playoff play-in game?

What the chart shows is that it's definitely not a tier 1/tier 2 type of situation. ESPN will be getting good to very good Big Ten games.

Well no, OSU-Michigan won't get that rating every single year, but it's probably the most consistently watched game of any college football rivalry from year-to-year regardless of how they're playing. It has the highest "floor" rating of any game and viewership goes into the stratosphere when both teams are contending, so that's worth a fairly large premium.
