UC women win the AAC track and field championship
It's nice for UC to get a conference title!

May 15, 2017

HOUSTON - For the second time in as many years, the University of Cincinnati women’s track and field program hoisted the conference trophy as the Bearcats scored 138 points to easily win the 2017 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships that were held Friday through Sunday in Houston, Texas. The team title is just the second in program history and comes on the heels of the Bearcats’ first title that was won one year ago in Orlando. The Bearcats captured 11 event championships on the weekend with the women winning seven and the men chipping in four of their own. The women, who won one-third of the contested 21 events, won four of those titles on the final day of competition, including a sweep of both relays.

Our Olympic sports have taken a step up in the past couple of seasons.

Probably blasphemy here, but you can appreciate Tubs' help for that.

Well we circumvent that by giving the praise to Whit Babcock for engineering the contract to apportion $300,000 over 5 years as a contribution to the Olympic sports. IIRC Mike Bohn put the same clause in the Fickell contract.

Of course, we have several who do not like either of those two guys either. 05-stirthepot

What I liked is they not only defended their title from last year, but increased their winning margin.

Yes, it was definitely Whit that built that into Tub's contract. Whit also restored full allowable scholarship levels for baseball and the olympic sports IIRC. Credit where credit is due.

Part is Ono's refocus on athletic and specifically Olympic sports programs that were ignored in the Mike Thomas era.
