Boren speaks
Boren speaks and the Tulsa World analyzes

Nothing terribly shocking in the article other than it's obvious that Boren is flat out lying at certain points.

They wouldn't be doing this Kabuki dance at this time if something wasn't up. It's 4 years premature and absolutely not necessary at this time.

So what kind of apple will drop from the tree? OU is not motivated to move on from the B12 at this time especially with the GOR and penalties.

Who is gonna piss them off to leave early? Texas? Bowlsby?

JR, if you're saying all this talk is setting up to push over a dominoe, then we are all just waiting for it to fall only too eagerly this time.

May found the answer buried in another thread:

They would, by NCAA precedent, have two years to get back up to 10 before they lose rights given at the membership level of 10 (right now that is a potential CCG). Two years would be all they would need to set up moves.

So our question should be how should the SEC divide the 7 required schools so that dissolution would be possible without Baylor's vote or presence and if Baylor still has full membership should we look to take 8 and leave N.D. as a partial?

The NCAA didn't drop the death penalty on Penn ST, but the Baylor situation is a lot more institutional collusion than the nittany lions one. That could put a kink in the GOR armor, potentially.

TV partners and the B12 could not find any non P5 schools to expand with that met or added value. Baylor's death could mean OU's ticket outta there.

Diminished value gives the network(s) the right to decrease payments or void the contract. No contract, no GOR. Plus remember then networks have good reason given what is looming in 2024 to go ahead and add product to the Big 10, SEC, ACC, and PAC so that the added valuations would open up each contract for renegotiation and extension. That way they avoid the potential raiding of product by Amazon or Hulu in 2024.

Every time Boren opens his mouth he loses another conference member. Just another veiled threat.

And this thought from George Schroeder...

Key question: Oklahoma pres David Boren is 76. Will he hold the reins in 3-5 years, when/if (by his estimation, too) realignment cranks up?

That's funny! I just got the mental picture of Boren trying to thump that first domino.

He just had open heart surgery. I think he's trying to get it done sooner. He does want the Big 10, but he also would switch to the SEC if OSU tagged along. He has a building named after him at OSU and his wife is a Cowboy supporter. As the former governor he wants them both out.

The regents and fan base lean strongly (but not unanimously) toward the SEC. I have to wonder if they thought that he was going to push them toward the Big 10 if they wouldn't finally stand up to a guy they respect, but disagree with.
