NCAA Changes
Surprised this hasn't been discussed more recently in here.
The NCAA has made it official that the early signing period will begin (starting this December).
This is a huge help to the G5 type schools, the late poaching will be reduced, and more importantly the staffs that can identify a kid that is 3star level, that isn't on the radar yet for the P5's which are vital for them filling thier classes, and can get them to commit early to a G5 school can really close the gap on the field. Recruiting just became harder for the middle of the road P5 type programs, who make a living getting 1 or 2 homeruns, and then feasting on the players the G5's have found consensus on.
The MSU, Iowa, type programs regionally are going to have to up their game in recrutiting. This is great news for us, Toledo, NIU, teams that are considered high end G5 type schools.

RE: NCAA Changes
Won't the late poaching just start earlier?

To a degree yes. But the reverse can happen too. Bigger schools will gamble more leaving some quality guys available with fewer offers.

RE: NCAA Changes
I can see where some timing and logistics will change.
Still, when you think about it, the size of both the talent pool and the slots available at bidding schools will remain roughly the same. There is some rationale to say the outcomes will remain similar.
Our best shot will remain to build on our recent success, and the strengths we have with the education we provide, and the culture of hard work, constant improvement, community involvement, etc.
I think Lester and company are fully capable of putting a quality product on the field. We have a lot to offer, and if we continue to see success on the field, we'll get our share and a little more.
It will be kind of interesting to see how this timing change shakes out.

RE: NCAA Changes
To be honest, I don't think this will have that big of an effect.
Essentially the only thing it changes is players flipping at the last second (which will still happen regardless of what dates they set).

RE: NCAA Changes
I think we are missing one major point.
By moving the calendar forward more official visits will take place before Sr year not after Sr. season. We will get more kids on campus when it's nice and warm, and not cold, snowy and dreary. In theory you could have your entire class signed before Christmas, and already working on the next class by then.
