How many visiting fans were murdered in Morgantown while WVU was in the Big East? Since I wasn't a BE fan I wasn't paying attention.

Actually they punched one. I don't know if they threw rocks at another but it is certainly possible. LSU fans in Baton Rouge can be obnoxious. But LSU travel fans are a different sort and are always fun to be with when they come to Auburn. When LSU played WVU in Morgantown at night following a game that LSU won a LSU man and his wife were assaulted as they tried to leave the stadium parking lot in their vehicle. A drunken group of Eer fans beat on the car and shouted obscenities at the couple. The man rolled down the window (a mistake) and was dragged from the car and assaulted. When his pregnant wife tried to pull him back in the car she was punched.

Until that time there was great sentiment in some SEC quarters (Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky) to consider WVU at some point if they managed to meet metrics. After the episode word got around quickly. Travel crowds usually contain a high amount of donors due to ticket priority. If your donors can't be safe traveling to another campus's venue then we don't need that school as a member of our conference.

In 40 plus years of going to SEC venues and ACC venues I have never witnessed or been threatened by fan violence. Drunk and obnoxious fans acting their intoxication levels, yes. Threatened no. The only physical fight I witnessed was in Birmingham in the early 80's when a drunken Alabama fan started shouting obscenities at an elderly Auburn couple. A man in his 40's stepped up and with one punch put the guy down. It was another Alabama fan who apologized to the couple for the behavior of anyone wearing crimson.

Auburn fans didn't have a bad time in Morgantown but we lost that night. There were more than a few incidents with the LSU travel crowd, but the one referenced was by far the worst reported.

Well, when Miami played there was an incident where Randy Shannon was hit by a trashcan thrown from the upper deck.

They're notorious for throwing items from the stands, storming the fields and assaulting anyone they can on the opposing staff. I've seen that in person when I worked the sidelines for Pitt. You just knew you had to have everything ready and run off to the locker rooms as soon as possible.

Not too many years ago Pitt assistants were hit by coins thrown during a basketball game which had to be stopped several times.

There have been incidents with urine filled balloons thrown at teams and rocks thrown at team buses.

And never park a car with identifying opposing team decals on it.

Everyone has bad fans, but their reputation is well earned.

Nothing is quite as revealing to the culture there as this opinion column from their own student newspaper: http://www.thedaonline.com/article_dc4fa...d5a60.html

OK, so WVU will NOT be getting an ACC invite... (and probably not many home & homes, either).

My worst fan experience ever was with LSU fans in Atlanta at the Kickoff classic. What a nasty bunch.

There's a trick to it. Invite them to your tailgate, ply them with beer or booze, and wait for them to pass out. No more trouble!

I figure turnabout is fair play.

I boycott LSU athletics, mostly ignore LSU fans, fly my Irish flag (see left for avatar) from the front yard flagpole and go about my Yinzer Irish way.

Have I ever mentioned that I am a stubborn bastard?

I still vividly recall this ugly incident since I grew up 25 miles from Morgantown, WV and have lived in Baton Rouge since 1983.
