RE: What TV service do you use at home? Directv? Dish? Other?
Internet service (50 bucks a month)
Netflix (10 bucks a month)
External antenna for local tv (free!)
Amazon Prime (100 bucks a year)

Used to have Sling but for some reason (not the internet speed) it was really choppy so we cut it.

And... That's it. Occasionally, I'll ask a friend for a WatchESPN login if there's something I want to watch on ESPN, ESPN 2, etc.

Directv is killing my wallet.

I have Directv. HD quality wise it is the best TV service on the market.

I used to sell Directv for a marketing company. Little tip...call them and ask for customer retention. They should be able to help you get your bill lowered.

If not I can tell you this since I don't sell it anymore. If you switch every two years between companies you get by far the best deals. It is just a bit of a hassle but it saves you a lot of money.

Dish Network has a overall better product now than Direct TV, i have become a Dish retailer just because of that reason. I have been swapping out Direct TV for the Dish Hopper and the picture quality is better without question. The only benefit Direct TV has is the NFL Sunday ticket ..... also.... Dish has less outages due to weather than Direct

PlayStation VUE (using Apple TV) - $35/mo
TWC/Spectrum internet (200 Mbps) - $55/mo

Total of $90/mo

Includes every sports channel except CBS Sports. Our local CBS affiliate is also delivered through Vue. All other local stations I get through an antenna I bought for $20

DirectTV

just called them about my bill (last month), and they sent me to the "loyal customer" department, taking $540 off my yearly bill

With taxes, it ended up being around $48 off my bill per month (we have internet through my wife's company, and no home phone).

I now pay $86.78 per month including taxes, with 4 boxes (can record from any box and watch from any box). They are also upgrading my "mini genies" to wireless next week. I was paying $146.32. Thinking about taking off the $7.99 "protection plan" after they come in and upgrade my equipment.

That is for one year--- however. We will see what happens next year. If the price skyrockets up again, I'll call again and threaten to leave.

I'm surprised how few here use an outdoor antenna. I understand if you're in an apartment or perhaps is renting a house. But the reception is far, FAR superior to an indoor antenna. Years ago there was an FCC ruling that HOAs couldn't ban outdoor antennas.

I live about 45 miles north of the transmitters for all the DFW TV stations except one. When I hooked up the outdoor antenna with a powered amplifier splitter, told the TV to scan for channels it found 122 channels. Yes, most I never watch. I had no idea there were three Vietnamese channels. But the picture quality is GREAT.

I use Spectrum for enhanced tier cable, high speed internet, and phone, it's $200+. I'm begging my wife to cut the cable and go with internet only SLINGTV and Vonage. I'd really like to tell Spectrum to FO!

Other

Killed Directv 5 years ago. TV bill is between $35 to $45 a month. Has gotten to the point that I rarely even watch OTA TV.

I have Direct TV and it's getting harder and harder to get any more good deals.....Pretty much all I got free last time was HBO and Showtime after I complained about my bill being too high, will try again in August..Seems like in my experience it matters what person you talk to...

For internet I have Spectrum, really wish Direct TV would add AT&T streaming in my area which I might can finally get a real deal if I bundle.....I still hope we have games on the New ASN this season, really convenient to add sports package and watch these games on TV...Kids have amazon prime and Netflix as well, so we spend a lot of money on all of this combined...

So Direct TV now $116 a month/For some reason my internet bill went up $10 when Spectrum bought TIme Warner and its crappier than ever $70 a month/Netflix $8 a month/Amazon prime $4 a month.

When we had a landline we used Magic Jack.....$25 a year. I believe the little thing you plug into the router was $29. Unless you lose internet was 99.5% reliable. For only $25 a year it's worth having on the few times ATT is down on the cells.

One thing that gets glossed over in the "get all my shows from antenna TV". Really? I cannot think of anything on the major broadcast networks that I actually watch regularly, aside from Panthers games on the fox affiliate. That's it. So the idea of all the $$$ I will save with an antenna is laughable. I have 3 antennas. I put them in a box cause we never used them. You guys must watch a ton of network tv to get any satisfaction out of that. my family primarily watches sports, movies, and "cable" stations.

DirecTV. Love it. If the price is bad I at do as my wife does and call and bargain with them. If the person you get won't do it hang up and call back the same day or tomorrow. Threaten to leave and someone will give you everything. We've been DIRECTV customers for over a decade and I think we've paid full price ONE year. We've had HBO, Cinemax, Showtime at all times or some variation of them and the other channels and NEVER paid a dime for them. We've only paid for NFL Sunday t met full price one time.

You just have to bargain.

XMBQ box with the Kodi Exodus add-on. I can watch any movie and tv show from any network for free. The Sports Devil add-on let's me watch any sporting event from anywhere in the world. After the initial $35 for the box and remote off of Amazon, you just need high speed internet and a little technical ability to program what you want.

We're among the saps that still have cable. Spectrum is our local cable company. Formerly Time Warner. Formerly Insight. Formerly Storer.

All you cord cutters running "jailbroken" (i.e. Kodi) devices... bad news:

I suspect this trend to continue. You can try to stay ahead but they will find a way to get your money.

PS Vue - beIn, ESPN, Fox Sports, NBC Sports, SEC Network, Big Ten Network
Hulu (only because I have gift cards)
Antenna w/ Tablo
I have access to Netflix & HBO Go

I will have to subscribe to Hulu Live if Tech's away games are on CBS Sports.

Five years from now when the numbers increase we will start seeing two or three services buying up all the rest....

happen with cable and it will happen with streaming. Once upon a time cable was fairly cheap. But once the numbers gets to a point and the choices start being bought up...

the streaming cost goes up and it will one day be as costly as cable is today. Only difference, you will have less channels and paying about the same.

These people are not cutting the cord. They are switching which cord they are using and that's it. The same thing happened with cable vs over the air. The same thing happened with internet service. And the same model will be used and in place with in five years for streaming...

fewer choices and price increases and taxes/fees taxes/fees taxes/fees will be added on. The government is going to get their share...city, state, federal. Just a matter of time.

What I don't understand is sports junkies wanting to watch a basketball game streamed vs cable. Those that say you can't tell the difference...are fooling their self. Why buy the best TV you can get with the best picture then watch something that looks like 10 years ago as far as motion goes.
