2018 C-USA Basketbal Tournament at the.......... Dallas Cowboys Practice Stadium?????
http://pilotonline.com/sports/college/ol...08cec.html

Looks like C-USA might be hosting the basketball tournaments on a football field.

Quote:Could it be the site of the 2018 Conference USA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments? A vote by athletic directors later this month will decide.
...
Both UAB and UTEP used separate arenas for the men’s and women’s games through the first two rounds. The Cowboys’ facility could be configured to put two courts on the playing field, according to a source with knowledge of the proposal.
...
An announcement could be made before the conference’s spring meetings in Destin, Fla., May 22-24. The selection of the athletic directors is subject to the approval of conference presidents.

What do y'all think about this proposal?

Sounds good to me.

In fact I hope this happens for selfish reasons.

I like the Metroplex tournament location. I need more details on this venue. Basketball in half of a football stadium sounds like bad sight lines. Why punish the loyal fans who do travel to the tournament by placing their seats far from the court?

Bringing both tournaments into one venue would be a good move, and there's more than enough seating.

Interesting concept and one that actually might entice me to make the trip up to Dallas (or Frisco) to watch the games in person. But I wonder if they could truly handle dual courts in some areas (such as scoreboards, video and noise related issues - for instance if a whistle blows on one court, would the teams on the other court hear it too?). Those are all minor issues I realize that should be fixable in advance.

At least the conference could cut down on travel costs for its staff it was in the Metroplex. The link below has some cool photos of the facility.

Or use two arenas (The Ford Center and Dr Pepper Arena).

They are down the road from each other.

In the 90's Indiana used to host the state High School basketball tourney in the RCA Dome and it was AWESOME. It was less of "other games interfering with each other" and more of a situation where the spectator is high enough that you could easily follow multiple games simultaneously. It encourages walking around. Count me in. 04-rock

Hmm, interesting take on it because that's something I wouldn't have thought about. Maybe it's not as awkward as I initially envisioned this as being. What made them stop hosting it there? I know the dome doesn't exist anymore, but since you said it was in the 90's, I'm assuming they stopped hosting it there before the dome was demolished.

Honestly, I never kept up with it, but I went a couple times and really enjoyed the experience.

You can see in this video of one of the finals that it feels like an arena but the acoustics are insane, just a wall of noise, which is another bonus (could just be the dome, who knows) :

Pike v LCC

Fun Fact, Pike was WKU hall of famer and current Knick Courtney Lee's high school.

Probably had something to do with the introduction of the 1A-5A class system, very unpopular with a lot of people. I think they moved 5A tourney to Banker's Life?? No clue.

I guess most of you commenting never went to a CUSA Tourney....

DEAD DEAD DEAD DEAD

that's what most games feel like. Now we are playing in a building big enough for two courts and all 300 fans that will be watching...counting band, cheerleaders, and the 50 or so workers/ushers.

Some of you that never actually attended a SBC tourney in Hot Springs use to complain how small time it made the conference look playing in the convention center. Find a place like Hot Spring and a arena that holds 4500 and you will have the best spot for this tourney.

Lets get real....if the tourney is over 150 miles away the same number of fans that's going to show up for the tourney. As if it's 450+ miles away. I will repeat this again as a fan of a basketball school...

no more showed up in B'ham than showed up in New Orleans or North Texas or Hot Springs. Mostly the same people. Fans that complain about if it was only close. Are mostly just that...complainers. No matter what it is, they will find a reason to complain and not go.

There is no where on this earth that you can put this tourney and get fan support..if the home team is not playing. As someone else said. Put in on a beach...played in a tent. Halftime you can go swimming. Most tents that can enclose a basketball court will hold the 250 fans.

Actually..location is not important, as far as attendance go. About the same fans are showing up.

The attendance in Frisco has the potential to either be very good or very bad. If UTEP and LT are both near the top of the league, they both will have enough alumni in close proximity and traveling fans to have good crowds at their games. If WKU is having the great year they are expecting, a bigger number will be traveling than have traveled to Birmingham. MT having another good year would bring some as well. But it would really need LT and UTEP to be doing well to create interest for their fans to go.

So what is it you don't like. Given the other choices, I see a lot more positive here than negative.
