RE: 2018 C-USA Basketbal Tournament at the.......... Dallas Cowboys Practice Stadium?????
At least Southwest flights to Dallas are cheap. I'm OK rotating it East to West every once in a while. I'd be OK with Birmingham/Dallas rotation. At the end of the day though, the Texas-centric mindset that the conference office has hurts the conference in total, particularly when most of your best programs overall are nowhere near Texas and have little to no interest recruiting there.

We outnumbered Little Rock in Hot Springs in a tourney game a few years back. How far is LR from Hot Springs ? 45 minutes ?
But Middle fans went home a game early :)
I never met anyone that went to a SBC tourney in Hot Springs that did not like the setup or enjoy the way they were treated. Buy your ticket and get there and find a seat....as close as you can get. No yellow shirt ushers walking up to you once you are seated saying.. can I see your ticket. In a mostly empty arena, like we saw this year.
1500 people can sound like 10,000. Just a good place for a basketball tourney when you know there will never be more than 4500 fans
Hot Springs was not kind to our men, that is for sure. But I sure did enjoy my 3 trips there. Even had a conversation one night with Raider-killa Mendez-Valdez

What evidence is there of a "Texas-centric mindset"? Texas has 2/7 of the schools in the conference, is highly populated, and has great sports venues.
It only makes sense that they take advantage of that.
RE: 2018 C-USA Basketbal Tournament at the.......... Dallas Cowboys Practice Stadium?????
If the conference is possibly going to pick a location that isn't the home of a host school then why don't they just pick Orlando, FL? People would have plenty of hotels to choose from, plenty of restaurants to choose from, and plenty of attractions to visit either when their team is not playing or has been defeated.
All the major airlines fly to Orlando and it can be driven to in one day from several conference schools.

And it's a easy hour drive to Dayton if the family wants to stay on the ocean. To be honest I rather see it farther south (Ft Lauderdale/Miami) but Orlando works. Instead of booking rooms by the night this would be a planned week stay for us. And we would most likely go to a few of the night games if Western played in the afternoon games. In B'ham and Dallas...I'm going home after Western gets knocked out

The fact that our commissioner and possibly a few of our ADs want to play men's and women's tournaments in a single 12,000 seat arena with the two games separated by a curtain makes me wonder why we don't just schedule it in the middle of an AAU tournament?
A ******* curtain. Give me a GD break. How many bad idea can we come up with? Are we paying these idiots to tank whatever tiny shred of dignity CUSA hoops has left.
So the games will be going on at the same time? Oh, that is lame.
If so ticket prices will probably increase because you are paying for men/lady tickets together. If not I'm paying to see the Lady's game. Cheaper ticket and no way in the world can they stop you from watching the Men game in this type of setup.
The two tournament's session tickets have been combined since the Conference went to the 1 city format.

Maybe a book but not the single game ticket.
I see no reason buying the $180 x 2 tourney book if you are leaving if your team gets beat. Makes no sense at all.... $35x4 = $140 for the games you came to see. And if your team gets a bye it's only $105 to see all 3 secession. So even if you decided to go to the night secession and buy a cheap seat...$20. It's still cheaper buying the single game ticket if your team gets a bye

All this talk means nothing if people don't show up no matter where it is. If you want to be big-time freaking act like it buy tickets and show up no matter where it is. Find excuses to go instead of excuses not to go. Talk is cheap folks.

You're right. Everyone needs to go, even if your team is struggling. I like the concept of one venue for both tournaments. Bring all the fans together under one roof. Give this a chance.

^^^^ Now THIS is the way everybody should be thinking. You're going to have a GREAT time in a big time sports atmosphere, with a ton of things to do. And since it's a world class city, you guys from the east can fly in very affordably.
We have too many naysayers and negative people on this board from CUSA. Some of you honestly don't know when a good thing hits you upside the head.
I take it you never, not once, been to a CUSA basketball tourney...
12,000 seat arena will be dead...you will be able to hear every bounce of the ball. Twice!. When it hits the floor and then the echo. Then if they do try back to back courts for the men's and lady's....
The TV guy will be going. "I thought I heard a whistle, but play is not stopped. Oh, wait, there it goes again" Color guy chips in...."Tom, it's a call in the lady's game playing on the court divided by the wall"
Sounds..."bigtime" to me
As for flying in cheap...Goggle list round trip $271 from Charlotte to Dallas and $307 to B'ham
I hope we all bring 300-500 fans but not likely.I know Western will have the same 150-200 that went to B'ham and if we are having a very good season you can up that to the 350-500
As I said it really doesn't matter where it's played, other than a beach location. Or a real destination city, like maybe New Orleans...it's going to be between 300-1500 there unless the home team is playing and hosting.
So Dallas is as good as any place but it will not be big-time...we will make the drive. Unless Western just sucks like this year...then I'm going to the Gulf instead of the 10 hour drive. Well need to add 30-45 minutes getting through freaking Ark. From right pass Memphis to almost Texarkana is awful...small roads and idiots sitting in the passing lane going 1 mile over or under the speed limit.
Thank you, eeore.

Yep. If you want the event/ the conference to be big time, then SHOW UP no matter where the tournament is. It's either important to you or it's not. I'm also there to, you know, watch basketball at a basketball tournament. Other than going out to eat a couple times, I could care less what else is going on in the city if I'm coming from out of town.

We don't know the details of the setup. I sorta doubt it'll be two courts at the Ford Center at The Star. Who knows there might be a few options like splitting the mens/womens tournament between two venues. There is an NBA DL venue down the street.
While I hope you are right, I am fairly certain I saw an article in the local paper (texas) which showed the setup with a curtain when discussing the hosting pitch.
This has an extremely high probability of sucking, and looking impossibly small time. I don't think I can put myself through watching it on TV, let alone in person. Too embarrassing.

The conference scheduled a presser at The Star next Tuesday which makes it the likely venue selected. I didn't realize on three sites bid on the tournament - Birmingham, El Paso and The Star.

Yes we will. Not too many from El Paso wanted to make the 1300 mile trek to support a team with a losing record.
There's a huge UTEP alumnus and El Paso natives that live in Dallas. Another strong presence in the Austin, San Antonio and Houston area that will make the drive. I've attended games at UT, UH, SMU, RICE, UTSA and UNT and there is always a good amount of UTEP in the stands. In 2014 when the tournament was held in El Paso I similarly counted about 10 folks from Middle Tennessee.
