RE: NFL Draft
Greg Cook was drafted before most on this board were born. So there is that.

With today's surgical methods his jersey would be enshrined in Canton.

Offensive coordinator Bill Walsh, who would coach Hall of Famers Joe Montana and Steve Young, once said, “Greg Cook was, I believe, the greatest talent to play the position. He could play today or any time in the history of the NFL. While he played he was the best there was.”

Draft Picks By School

Scroll down to 114 for the Bearcats. The 2009 class had the most picks (6) highlighted with Connor Barwin in Round 2. In 2012, two second rounders were selected - Derek Wolfe and Isaiah Pead. Derek was the highest selection taken in the modern era that I could find - 4th pick of the second round. Artrell Hawkins also drafted in second round (1998).
Define Modern Era. Heck, I'm old enough to remember Greg Cook who was drafted #5 overall in 1969 by the Bengals.

Points taken. In my mind's eye, modern era meant the last 30 years or so. I wasn't giving a historical breakdown of all the UC drafts - the link can do that for you. FWIW in addition to Greg Cook, DT Bob Bell was also a first round selection of the Detroit Lions in 1971.

Joe Morrison was a 3rd round pick by the Giants in the 1959 NFL Draft. Had a helluva pro career.

Wasn't Alex Gordon a 2nd round pick by the Jets back in the 80's?

Yes, Alex Gordon was selected in the 2nd round.

Michael Woods, LB was selected in the 2nd round of the draft by the Baltimore Colts. He was an All-American in 1977. His career was cut short when he was shot in the neck during a robbery attempt and was paralyzed.

Cook was the UC QB while I was in school. He was friggin fantastic. The coaching was friggin awful. The game plan would be to try to run the ball in the first half and then turn Cook loose in the 2nd half to try to catch up. With the small crowds of the era you could hear his throws hit the pads of the receivers - especially Tom Rossley.

Without Cook's injury Walsh maybe never coaches Virgil Carter and he never invents the West Coast Offense.

This is kind of an interesting graphic... We're definitely not at the bottom.
