Maybe an existing bowl game could move in to fill the eastern void.

The Bahamas Bowl could be moved there possibly.

and they are bad at supporting those as well.

Bahamas Bowl isn't going anywhere unless Atlantis gets bored with it.

Another bowl appears to be headed to the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Frisco's Toyota Stadium is in line to host what was formerly the Miami Beach Bowl, according to the city.

Josh Dill, the director of sports and events for the Frisco convention and visitors bureau, said the city has been in discussions with ESPN regarding hosting the Football Bowl Subdivision event.

The game, the exact dates of which are yet to be determined, is expected to be in Frisco for at least the next three years, Dill said. "We've had serious discussions [about hosting the bowl], and a letter of understanding is being drafted right now."

Frisco is a nice area. There is probably more wealth in the suburbs North of Dallas than probably all of Mississippi.

LIke Texas and the west needs another bowl? We have to get a bowl game that eastern schools can go to within normal driving distance... Since South Carolina can host now why can we not get a bowl game in Mrytle Beach or Hilton Head? Has to be a high school stadium somewhere that would be the perfect size for us...

Frisco will be glad to have another venue there, they put on a great show for the FCS Championships. Toyota Stadium is a soccer stadium not the best for football, team areas are not to good with all the equipment a football teams has to have. Team locker rooms are right next to each other and the use the same access ways for getting on and off the field. Not the best idea to come from ESPN or conference leaders. IMHO they could have chosen a better place for a bowl game.

Didn't the Poinsettia Bowl go defunct? Too bad someone didn't move it east.

Maybe they can get Crisco as a sponsor and call it the Crisco Frisco Bowl.

There are new football specific locker rooms and equipment areas being added as well as new access points in what would be the south endzone, as part of the national soccer hall of fame being built in that part of the stadium. It is a little small for football, but it seats more than the star at the ford center, 12,000-13,000 depending on temporary seating.

RE: Miami Beach bowl moving?
I think that having this bowl game played in a smaller venue is a great idea. MLS soccer didn't start gaining ground until they stopped playing in Coliseums designed for NFL and Mega Colleges and started developing friendly confines of their own. The Camelia Bowl is one of the few things that the Belt got right. It looks great on TV and all the seats are quality seats. Instead of practically giving tickets away to save face come bowl season, you could actually generate demand and sell at a premium bowl tickets for venues like this. We want to go to bowl games with a great atmosphere, not hollowed half empty stadiums.

The locker rooms and new seating probably won't be ready for the next bowl game, but will be for all future games. Right now, capacity is 16K. Once the new seats are installed, capacity will be back up around 20K.

I really love all the people complaining about the location of the game though. People act like these games can just be put anywhere they want. Venues have to bid for these games, and it turns out that Frisco decided to bid on it. That's why the game is being moved, not because the powers that be decided that Texas needed another bowl game...

I for one think its a great idea and will be a test case for G5 bowl games in the future.

I've not kept as close an eye on the bowl certification rules but it at least used to be a requirement that the bowl had to sell as many seats as they require the teams to buy.

21,000 seats? Easy. Each school has to sell 7000, the bowl tacks 7000 tickets into the sponsorship agreements. All done.

And sell the tickets at a premium.

LOL. I have always felt that the SC and GA coast cities were missing the mark by not building a cheap erector set stadium of 22k to 30k seats that could host smaller bowls plus HS games.

For those of you that don't know, Frisco TX is now definitely one of the nicest cities in the state of Texas. It's a BOOM town. Frisco is the home of some of America's wealthiest zip codes, and probably has more brick and mortar business growth than any place in the country.

Toyota Motor Company is moving (and currently building) their world wide headquarters campus right across the street from Frisco, in Plano, TX. It will bring 10K new white collar jobs to the area. Most of those employees will live, dine and play in Frisco. Frisco's success is also why the Dallas Cowboys just relocated their new $1.5 BILLION headquarters campus there. It is being built about 1 mile from this stadium.
