Per ESPN - BG Signs Best MBB Class in Ages
Since at least 2007 when they started their current ranking system. Nice job Coach Huger

Quote:BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Since ESPN.com Recruiting started its high school basketball recruiting rankings in 2007, the Bowling Green State University men's basketball program has never signed a higher-rated incoming class. The 2017 class, which features five soon-to-be freshmen, is set to arrive on campus this summer.

Nelly Cummings (Midland, Pa. / Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School), Joniya Gadson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla. / Dillard High School), Derek Koch (West Salem, Ohio / Northwestern High School), Matiss Kulackovskis (Saldus, Latvia / Archbishop Ryan High School) and Daeqwon Plowden (Philadelphia, Pa. / Mastery Charter North School) have all signed National Letters of Intent to play for head coach Michael Huger's Falcons. All five players have four years of eligibility, beginning with the 2017-18 season.

Bowling Green has four of its incoming freshmen ranked by ESPN, which is a program best. Additionally, two members of the 2017 recruiting class are tabbed as 3-star prospects according to ESPN, marking the first time ever that BGSU has signed a 3-star prospect on ESPN.com's ratings

I think the subject line means per ESPN rankings, not per ESPN story ... as linked in the OP, the story is "per BG Athletic Department".

While I see the ESPN100 player rankings and the top 40 recruiting classes on the main site, the full information might be behind the ESPN paywall.

RE: Per ESPN - BG Signs Best MBB Class in Ages
I'm always happy to hear that a MAC team has a good recruiting class-even BG- and think Huger has the ability to be successful there. However, if you want to compare BG's class to Toledo's and include transfers it's hard to call BG's the best class. Toledo has 3 incoming players ranked by ESPN higher than BG

Tre Fletcher 2013 ESPN Top 100 recruit (Colorado transfer), ESPN ranking of 84 (among the top 20 in the nation at his position), only 4 star ranked incoming player in the MAC, I believe
Dwayne Rose Jr 2017 recruit ESPN rank of 78, 3 stars, top 45 in his position
Willie Jackson 2016 class Missouri transfer, rank of 76, 3 stars, top 40 in his position
also Logan Hill a 2nd team all state (big school) from Ohio and one of the top athletes in this years Ohio HS class, Marreon Jackson a pg recruit from Cleveland Glenville who isn't highly rated but very well liked by some folks who closely follow Ohio HS bball. the Rockets are also in the final 5 of uncommitted JUCO all-american Chris Darrington who is from Toledo and also considering Memphis, Tennessee, Nebraska and Boise St

Not saying BG isn't bringing in some good talent or that Toledo will win the MAC next season, but I wouldn't say the rankings have BG killing it. Toledo has a good class, Buffalo has some impact transfers and good frosh recruits, Eastern has a couple good transfers and some sleeper frosh and i imagine there's some good players coming to other MAC schools I don't follow too closely.

I think the article was comparing BG's class this year to BG classes of previous years, not to classes of other MAC schools.

That article was so 2007, or 10 years dated...

What I mean, is that recruiting classes today are compromised of so many different type recruiting situations that it is comparing apples to oranges.

As Pono indicated, EMU has two good transfers.

How does BG compare its h.s. recruits to Elijah Minnie, a Robert Morris transfer.

"Robert Morris: 2015-16: Posted 14 double-digit scoring performances to go along with three double-doubles on his way to averaging 12 points and 6.6 rebounds per game...Was exceptional defensively, blocking 1.9 shots per contest, including a career-high six rejections, on the road at Bryant (Jan. 23).." EMU website

And to add to the silliness how do you 'score' a non-h.s. recruit? Or you ignore the best person in EMU's class?

What does this tell me:

Different schools utilize different recruiting strategies. Other than that: ??????????

At least in that article, the way it compared it's recruits to Elija Minnie is it doesn't try: as already noted above, that article is comparing this year's BG recruiting class to previous BG recruiting classes, and Elijuah Minnie is not a recruit in a previous BG recruiting class.

It says zero in terms of comparing the BG recruiting class to other recruiting classes in the MAC (though if someone pays to get past the ESPN paywell, it would be interesting to hear how they stack up in ESPN's recruiting ranking system) ... because it's not doing that.

Mind, this is only since ESPN started their current recruiting class ranking system in 2007, so it's like "best in the past decade", not "best of all time".

RE: Per ESPN - BG Signs Best MBB Class in Ages
When a guy's transferring as a junior or senior, it doesn't make much sense to talk about how many stars he was given by a recruiting service during his senior year in high school. The rating system for incoming freshmen is a best guess as to how well a high school player will fare in the college game. By the time a player has played two or three years of college ball, you have much better indicators of his ability than how he was rated as a high school senior.

And if he went to a power conference school and left because he wasn't playing, then he was probably overrated coming out of HS.

Correct - The story is only comparing this class to other BG classes. Not the rest of the league. Sorry for any confusion.
