Omaha is not going to the MVC. You need to stop panicking.

Rather have the Montanas and Idaho anyway.
It would be fun to see UNI in a conference with Omaha though. That would make their 3 fans heads explode.
Quick peek at the NCAA 2016 attendance report shows UNI (5378) drawing twice as much as SDSU (2781).

And they have 3 fans who troll the internet talking up their school. Those three fans have ripped every school not named Valpo or Murray State as being beneath UNI who are deemed to be the next invite to the Mountain West by this trio.

It was a joke, lighten up. Or are you a closet UNI fan?

Back to the title of this thread.

It seems the OVC's best option is Kennesaw State.Good travel partner with Jacksonville State.

UNLESS... something happens that no one seems to consider--the OVC allows Murray to stay as a football only.Possible.

I agree that Kennesaw St is probably their best expansion option. Chattanooga would be better but I don't think they are interested.

I don't see Murray St football staying in the OVC. The Summit schools in the MVFC owe the MVC schools a favor for letting in UND. admitting Murray St as the 12th MVFC member only makes sense and could possibly speed up UND's football move.

RE: Murray St to MVC??? What does OVC do?
Liberty is the best OVC option. Not in Nashville -unlike Lipscomb who would get a Belmont veto- and plenty of money. They are far bigger than anybody in the Big South, and have a budget treble anyone else.

The long run I see the Summit focusing on SIUE to bridge to the little Purdues. SIUE at one point was talking to the WAC, so I know they are less than thrilled by the geography of the OVC. There is ZERO threat for the Summit to lose either of the Purdue schools (IUPUI would need to double its budgets in sports like MBB to reach level tHL is looking for -- that money doesn't exist; and their 263 RPI ... yikes!). Nor WIU, and the four Dakotas are the core. The threats are much greater in losing Denver orOmaha. The exit fee from either could be used to pay the OVC exit fee for SIUE (WAC did that for UMKC).

The school nobody talks about but who has great metrics and is hugely better funded than it's conference is Stephen F. Austin (MBB budget $2.19m, 5 year RPI 88), which is comparable to New Mexico State ($3.00m, 83 RPI). Those would be the best Basketball adds the Horizon could make, since Belmont is unlikely to go anywhere. Travel is another issue here though.

If the MVC were truly intent on improving maybe they should be looking at SFA and Valpo instead of Murray and Valpo. Murray has one season under 100 RPI in the last 5 and their average is 120 with a season over 200. Personally I think Murray's BB success is in the past. The last two years have been 170 and 230 RPI years. NMSU is a very good BB school hampered by geography and a terrible FB program. I would absolutely love to see them in the Summit but that travel is a big hurdle for the Illinois/Indiana schools.

I doubt the OVC would go after Liberty but it wouldn't be a bad fill for Murray but they don't bring FB. I actually think WIU would be a good OVC add but I'd rather not lose them yet. Or, to be honest, Indiana State. Getting ISU to move from the MVC would be way too hard. But competitively they fit better in the OVC.

NMSU to the SL is a good move if the Indiana schools go to the HL. Then SL should either add UMKC or if they don't like a floundering school in a good market, go after new blood from D-II. however USI and Bellarmine would probably be too far east. w/ a western shift of the 2 Indy schools leaving and adding NMSU. I don't know of any schools from D-II in that footprint w/o a football problem that are ready to move up.

Liberty is moving to FBS, so that's out.

EDIT: I now realize you probably meant non-football. In which case, I guess it's possible but the OVC is a bit far-flung for a Virginia school. Plus you have to think Liberty is still trying to get into a FBS all-sports conference, so there'd always be the threat of Liberty leaving quickly for the Sun Belt, MAC or CUSA.

I don't think the Summit has any intention of creating a bridge to WIU and the Indiana schools. At least one of those three will be gone during this round of alignment. Once UND is in the league, when a spot becomes available the Dakota 4 and the hockey schools Omaha and Denver hold a super majority, 6 votes to 3. If they all agree on a candidate school(s) they will get in and Oral Roberts, WIU, and the Indiana schools opinion won't matter. The future of the Summit is in the Great Plains and Upper Midwest.

Probably can't go any sooner than the 2018 season, likely for either UND or Murray, because 2017 schedules are already set and likely the logistics (travel, hotel, food catering, etc.) have already been worked out.

But I do agree that if Murray wants the MVFC, it probably has the offer in hand.

Only other possibility, which I've brought up before, is if Murray admin want to deemphasize football ... then they could join Morehead St in the Pioneer league. But I haven't seen any indication of that.

Agree 100%. Would like to see the first order of business to get UMKC back into the fold.

Think Omaha to the MVC is a roughly 0% chance ... probably the MVC just visiting there for due diligence and to make it look like to MO St that the MVC doesn't want to leave them out on an island. (But wouldn't UMKC make more sense for that?? anyway ...)

Then you could look at making the I-70/I-80 loop a foursome by adding No Colorado. Not sure what it would do with football though, unless WIU did leave for the OVC in all sports (stupid move IMO, if it does that).

Otherwise, look at if any Northern Sun schools are interested in moving up to DI by dropping football.

Sorry, but I just have to cherry pick this part. They have bus rides to Charleston, IL (EIU), Cape Girardeau, MO (SEMO) and really, the OVC is their best bet with geography if the Horizon League or MVC never call.

Plus, I would think that WIU would get serious consideration from the OVC if Murray State leaves. And the OVC provides closer trips for WIU than sending volleyball to Denver, Omaha, and the Dakotas.

But to talk to the WAC if unhappy with OVC travel? Let's see --- I don't like busing to Cookeville TN or Jacksonville AL ... I'll show them ... I'll fly them to Bakersfield CA, Seattle WA, Phoenix AZ, etc??????

RE: Murray St to MVC??? What does OVC do?
Well, is Murray State on the list or not? It seems the privates will be balking at any football schools. I read somewhere that Valparaiso, Omaha and Wisconsin-Milwaukee are top choices. Football schools are out. ICU seems to be out as well. Grabbing tv market does not mean getting good teams. Valparaiso and Milwaukee does have the better basketball products that the privates would go for. Third choice that writers and others are not thinking about is who could be the third for the spot? There is word Belmont is not interested in MVC and are not talking with them. If Missouri State seems to be eying for another conference right now for all sports? Could a D2 basketball powerhouse who could be competitive from the word go the a choice? Drury is a powerhouse in men's basketball at the D2 level, and they were also a former affiliate in a sport. They are in the footprint, and their sports are better than UMKC. They are also located in Springfield, Missouri, and may have attracted the eyes of the MVC schools as well when they visited Missouri State in the same town.

RE: Murray St to MVC??? What does OVC do?
The MVC will not add from Division II, and definitely not a second school in Springfield, Missouri - if Drury were in Chicago perhaps, but they'd need to join Division I first.

I think you'll see one football playing school added - the football schools aren't going to let the non-football schools usurp their position. The MVFC will also be at 11 schools once UND is on board, so it makes sense to go to 12 members. A 12 member conference opens up the possibility of divisional scheduling, and eliminates the need for late-season byes or OOC games, especially as FBS conferences cut back on FCS opponents.

I don't think privates are too worried about Murray's football, they're a basketball school.

Having nine for football would be nice, but is not necessary st the FCS level.

While I think the conference schedule would be fine with eight a school like UTM which likes to play twelve games would have a difficult time lining up enough OOC games.

Geography is not the same word as travel. I meant they were not thrilled at Tennessee and Kentucky (southern) based league. A Midwest league with schools in Indiana and Illinois might be appealing to them. That is after all where they recruit students from.
