North Texas Lands 3 star WR
"North Texas picked up a commitment from Dallas Madison wide receiver Antonio Gage on Thursday.

Gage is No. 30 in The Dallas Morning News rankings of the top prospects in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the class of 2018. He is No. 162 nationally among wide receivers in the 247Sports composite rankings."

Gage selected the Mean Green over offers from P5 programs Texas Tech, Colorado, Minnesota, Utah, and Illinois, as well as C-USA rival LA Tech and local AAC program SMU.

RE: North Texas Lands 3 star WR
Big congratulations on the commitment. But this is a puzzling choice for a 3-star WR. Why would any 3-star WR choose UNT --a school that has almost no history of throwing the football with any success-- vs any of the other schools mentioned, some who routinely send WR's to the NFL?

First, we did have some huge passing years under Dodge (just very little defense or winning). We also send a quarterback and receiver to the NFL back in the 60's.
Is that not enough for a good history? :)

Second, the kid must be banking on Littrell and Harrell continuing to turn around this offense. Last year wasn't bad considering the horrible offensive line play, freshman quarterback, new offensive system, etc.

Third, the kid will be staying close to home. Could be a huge part of the decision.

Fourth, the kid may look at our depth and see an opportunity to get some early playing time.

Trying to guess the decision making of a high school kid is problematic. Hopefully we keep the commitment.

He has a nice offer list that includes Utah, Colorado and Texas Tech. Congrats on the commitment and here is to hoping he stays committed and signs with UNT.

A few years back Favre was on a recruiting video for us. His statement was, if your good enough the league will find you. But you gotta go somewhere you can play.

He can play faster at nt as opposed to sitting the bench at larger schools. Sounds like someone close to this kid is actually thinking.

I've read articles by Vito before and he is usually pretty astute but he puts those stats out there with no reference? Unless this info is paraphrased.
I guess wide receiver is what he settled on? Passing, rushing, and receiving yards.
You have to be happy to get what seems like a pretty good recruit to commit without even seeing the campus yet? 04-jawdrop

Sounds like a good pickup to me. I see no reason why UNT can't make a living off some Metroplex players. It must be loaded with talent. I'm sure all the big boys swoop in for the 4s and 5s but our schools have to make a living off the overlooked 3s and 2s. We use Florida and Georgia and Bammer for it up here. You guys should be all over your area.

No. I'm referring to THIS kind of history.

Not trying to denigrate UNT at all. But UNT football is much better known for DEFENSE than any kind of offense, especially throwing the football. It's almost absurd to think he could make it to the NFL playing WR for UNT. AGAIN, not trying to denigrate UNT, but this choice would make much more sense on the other side of the ball.

Don't be so paranoid. I'm trying to have a quality recruiting discussion here. And don't pay any attention to techdawg28. He just graduated from high school.

I watched Troy Edwards have the greatest modern game ever against Nebraska back in 1998, but North Texas did have some good passing games back in the terrible Dodge years. In 2007 North Texas threw for over 600 yards against SMU, and Casey Fitzgerald had 327 yards receiving for North Texas. At the time that was the 5th highest single game total in NCAA history. Fitzgerald finished that season 3th in the nation in receiving, with 1,322 yards. At times we were able to really throw the ball around, unfortunately, Dodge was a high school coach that had no clue about the defensive side of the ball.

RE: North Texas Lands 3 star WR
The last time I remember UNT having a good passing game was when they recruited our local kid from here in McKinney, TX, Johnny Quinn. I believe Quinn went on to become UNT's all-time leading receiver, and I KNOW he later became an Olympian for the U.S. Olympic Bobsled team. Quinn became kinda famous during the last winter Olympics for sending out a tweet that went viral when he got locked in a bathroom in Olympic village, and he had to bust himself out by busting thru a bathroom wall. LOL!!

That's not exactly correct, but go ahead, be a jerk about it. You obviously came here to insult his program and brag about ours. I had to do damage control and make it clear not all Tech fans are this obnoxious.

Johnny Quinn is training for the next Winter Olympics as we speak. A fine athlete.
