Exactly.

Like it or not, that is a different world. Sure, our bball players are pampered, probably more than he will get there, but he gets to play road games at the likes of Arkansas, Kentucky, Florida, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, LSU, instead of our road opponents, and be a member of a rich athletic department and enjoy the sweet living that goes along with that.

Of course, as someone stated above, I hope he averages 20 and they lose every game.

He MAY get some of those road games. But with the unbalanced schedule, he won't get them all. Besides, those are great FOOTBALL road games. Less so with basketball - other than UK.

I guess I just don't see that moving the needle in basketball. If it were ACC, BEast - then yes.

Waaa... he doesn't want to be here, buh bye..

A recurring theme with Tubby is his insistence on doing what he wants and how he wants to do it regardless of damage caused or missed opportunities incurred.

I understand it from Tubby's perspective. He is a rich senior citizen. He does not want to deal with the likes of GP and Calkins (who would?) so he doesn't.

Tubby is probably the most respected coach by the media that we've had since Bartow - certainly since Finch. Pastner was a goofy kid to the national media. Cal was a pariah - at least until he got to UK. Tic - they hardly knew. Finch was respected because he was a local hero. Kirk was not too well-liked.

Tubby's reputation nationally is pretty solid. At the same time, he doesn't appear to be too engaging with Calkins or GP. Even so, you're painting with a broad brush there.

Tubby - a grizzled veteran - should be expected to handle the local media better than a lesser paid second year head football coach, but Tubby has failed.

Honestly, I am having a hard time understanding the reflexive defense of Tubby for his obvious (to me anyway) flaws. He is not beyond approach or criticism.

The local media here is a joke. They are here for a reason. It's all about winning, if he can do that, he'll fill the Forum. Who cares what these dipshits say/think? Subscription to the CA is low, and local talk radio listeners are few and far between.

I am pleased with the CA beat writer, but I agree that the local sports talk shows are dreadful to the extent that I cannot listen. However, our jobs sometimes/often require us to undertake unpleasant tasks and Tubby's job is to get along with the local media because the media (for better or worse) sets the agenda for discussion as this thread and others testify. He needs to wade into the muck and wrestle with the alligators.

Coach worship. It happens with every coach. Some deserve it (Fuente, Norvell, Cal), and some don't (Porter, West, Pastner, Tubby thus far)

People confuse the coach for the program. The program and the Tigers are the kids playing. The coach is the one being paid to organize everything who deserves praise for what he does right and criticism for what he doesn't

I'm hearing we will get LSU on the schedule in the coming BB season - maybe Vandy too - at home. That would be a big boost to the OOC home schedule if the admin gets it done.

I don't see it as coach worship as much as program support. Especially for a guy like Tubby who, 3/4 into the season, was possibly overachieving.

But when things go sour here it's like trying to stop a river with a fork.

Coach worship has nothing to do with it - at least with me. But it's the usual and expected reply from someone going the opposite way.

The truthful defense is that it is still too early to say the sky is falling. I went to just about all home games. The team I saw for most of the year was an improving team playing better than they did under Pastner - with less talent and bad holes in the roster. What I've seen this offseason is some talent - but chemistry issues - transferring out, and some roster holes being addressed.

I haven't changed my expectations. I said NIT in year 2 and I still expect to be in that position. If it doesn't happen, then I'll start challenging Tubby and his process. Meanwhile, I'm not going to be a GP, Calkins, John Martin sheeple, and attack the guy and the school just because Forbes or Kennedy didn't get hired.

I like that Mark G is active. He's giving a lot of content and social media updates. But he's been obviously wrong on some things. Jury's still out on him, too.

Possibly true, but that's your opinion. It's not like we had great guard play last year. I don't want to beat up on those guys, but it wasn't pretty. Memphis has a long tradition of good guard play and last year fell well short of the average.

Agree, it is my opinion and not fact.

My opinion is based on replacing an experienced starter with a 3 * Frosh or JUCO. The newcomer(s) must equal or exceed Crawford's production of:
1. Starting every game
2. 32.4 min per game
3. 12.8 PPG (2nd on team)
4. 4.4 Rebound per game (3rd on team)
5. 75.8% FT (lead starters)
6. 33.3% three point (mediocre but still lead the team)
7. Noted Defensive Ability.

About that scoring average, consider how much higher it might have been had he not disappeared in at least 9-10 games, scoring low to medium single digit points.

And I disagree about his defensive ability, with the weak defense we've run over the last 4 years he never had a chance to demonstrate that he had a defensive presence, or he never had one.

This.

This is a ridiculous statement. How in the world was he looking over his shoulder? He played a ton of minutes. And there wasn't anyone on the bench that would be pushing him to take his minutes. Joe Jackson played four years looking over his shoulder for a coach who couldn't manage his players or get along with them at all. All I can say is, I'm glad I'm not listening to the daily beat down of our program and our coach. What really gets me is for 7 years everyone on the radio (almost) I do remember Peter E. blasting Josh early in the morning before Wolo came on, other than that I don't know of any harsh criticism coming from anyone. Certainly not Jason S., Not John M., not Gary P., the late George L., they all treated Josh with kiddie gloves. He's so nice. He's the nicest guy. Everyone loves Josh. Nobody blames Josh. He's so nice. He's such a nice guy. Over and over and over for 7 years.

Completely agree. The more that comes out, the more I realize what has happened needed to happen. We had losers on this roster. Mentally weak and way too much entitlement. The witch hunt has also gotten old

The loser is the head coach. The guy is talking about looking over his shoulder because of the coach. Not because of another player.

tubby is the very definition of micromanager.

Gerald Fitch was a tubby favorite. But even he said once he left UK that, "there are two tubbys, the one the public sees and the one the players see". And he was a tubby guy. The Memphis fans that put their faith in tubby are due for a huge disappointment.

I hope he averages 20 at OM and they lose every game.

So many of these kids have a hard time when it starts to become clear that they will never reach the NBA. Markel is a decent D1 player, that is about it. He doesn't shoot the ball well, doesn't get into the paint. He's relatively athletic for D1, but not the type of athlete that turns NBA heads at all.

He can make a living playing the game, but it will not be in this country.

That being said, I understand wanting a shot at playing in the tournament, but leaving for Ole Miss is a big "f" you to this school and its fanbase. My opinion of him went from being sympathetic to apathetic. Im my book, he is no longer a tiger.

I have to disagree here. If you look up micromanager in the dictionary, Josh Pastner's picture would be there. Now, Tubby may pull some strings, but from what I saw this past season, he is not a micromanager to the level we have seen around here for the previous seven years.

He has some faults (who doesn't?), but that isn't one of them.

Oh, really. Hmmm. I wish you anti-Tubsters would get on the same page. A micro-manager oversees everything, and has his hand in everything. Everything. Like Bill Belichick. Yet one of the major criticisms I see about Tubby on this board is that he's cruising, picking up a check, playing golf, etc. That is not a micro-manager by any stretch.

So....which is it?
