CR Board

Discussion on CR board about JH being in year 3 of a 5 year commitment to the B1G and would they continue that commitment or look to the ACC again?

I think the ACC should reach out to Hopkins, Navy and possibly Army.

What do you guys think?

Doesn't really matter unless Men's Lacrosse is about to become a huge revenue (widespread TV and exposure) sport.

Until you posted this thread, I didn't know (or care) that Johns Hopkins was an associate B1G member.

RE: Johns Hopkins LAX
ESPN signed a deal with JH just for Lacrosse. I can't think of another single-sport TV deal out there.

It coincides with the start up of the ACCN so the timing is ideal.

With little cost to the ACC, I think it would generate positive revenue.

I don't see a reason to not add JHU.

Give them an associate membership and the 10 non-lax schools can go along forgetting that JHU exists, while the 5 lax schools play in the best lax conference ever assembled (i.e. Better than the current ACC and better than the ACC when UMD was in it).

In all seriousness, what's the down side? At worst, it's a revenue neutral move that has zero impact on voting and further strengthens the conference's identity of elite private and private-like schools along the Atlantic coast.

You add JHU as an Associate Member you would have the Top 2 brands in Men's Lacrosse.

I don't see why not. It would be good for ACC LAX & academics. It's really not that uncommon for a school to be a member of a conference for a single (or more) sport. Kentucky, for instance, is also a member of CUSA.

I assume that you are talking about JHU and last year's NCAA champion.07-coffee3 We play JHU every year anyway, so why not make it a conference game.

So does Syracuse, and without looking, I'm guessing thatvUVA is in the same boat.

That's the other half of what's perplexing. 40-60% of the conference plays JHU every year and the remaining 40-60% plays JHU on a regular basis. Why not add extra juice to the game and *further* legitimize the conference?*

In a perfect world for Texas (as described to me by my Big 12 guy), they would want to join the ACC as full members with… wait for it… Notre Dame.

Okay if big Tex joins then maybe Notre Dame would look at it but if that's the only way then we are safe for another 100-200 years.

I don’t position this blog as a newsbreaking site, but I have heard from a knowledgeable person with extensive contacts with current and former Big 12 members (i.e. knew specific details about Nebraska heading to the Big Ten and Texas A&M to the SEC beforehand that couldn’t have been simply guessed from the news) that basically had this to say: Oklahoma isn’t happy with the Big 12 and wants to get out.
