Exclamation OT - Savannah State To Drop To Division II

I think we've all played these guys in recent years, and if football was an indication of anything, this is the right move.

It's a good move for them at least as far as football goes. They used to have solid DII teams often going to the the DII playoffs but they never really supported the team once it moved up and it showed with all those losing seasons.

Savannah State has one playoff appearance which was in 1992. They were struggling as a D2 which made people question the move to D1 athletics from the very beginning

You guys' stadium is very impressive, and I kinda wish the Camellia Bowl was held there.

Thanks man. I wish it was also. It would definitely be an upgrade from Cramton Bowl

School wanted more in rent than Cramton Bowl. Shame a deal wasn't worked out. Think it would be a good storyline for Alabama State.

Hopefully a deal can be made in the future, I doubt it considering the amount of $$$$$ the city has sunken into Cramton Bowl.

The move from FCS to D2 has worked out very well for Winston Salem State, although they were in a better position than Savannah State pre-move. They've made it to the D2 Football National Championship (first HBCU to ever do that) and have something like 5 straight conference championships in baseball. Plus, they play at Bowman Gray Speedway and that's insanely cool.

I really like Ala St's stadium, esp the colors , but the Crampton Bowl is a historic stadium and I really like playing tbe bowl game there.

Cramton Bowl is a fine stadium. It would be even better if they didn't run out of beer and cash in the ATMs by the first quarter.

You may be correct I didn't look up their record but I was in school at GS in 92 and that is that is the same time frame I based my opinion of Savannah St on. I distinctly remember them having some good years in Div II during that time.

I think we'd rather play schools closer to us so that we can keep it cheap and so they bring more fans. KSU is brand new to the world of football, so they don't have a large fan base right now and I doubt any of them would make the 4.5 hour trip to Statesboro. It costs way less to pay for SC State which is only 2 hours away.
