All in all, it was a huge Calipari recruiting infomercial. He truly gets it and is good at it.

Side note: Gary Parrish said in twitter last night the following, but didn't go into detail (I can only insinuate that this was told through Cal's eyes and he likely had control over a lot of it to control the message):

I’ll level with you. A lot of that was bull****. But John Calipari is 100 percent the person I’d hire to run my college basketball program.

Undoubtedly, Cal having complete administrative control of that piece was probably the only way he granted permission of his rags to riches story to be told. I still think in the coaching world...he's not perceived to be one of the elites despite paying overwhelming dues to achieve enormous success as a coach. GP can put a sock in it. There was a reason we saw Dan Wolken and not GP interviewed for the piece.

I thought Wolken did a good job.

I thought so as well. I've always liked Wolken even when he was our beat writer. He was indeed abrasive but never sugarcoated or was overly biased in his reporting. He was a hell of a writer/journalist, which speaks highly to him being on the national scene today.

Can't remember but it seems like he was talking about blue bloods. We will never be that.

There were quite a few former Tigers there. There was a scene where he was talking to Taggert and Barron about Marcus Camby.

And that reason is that GP has a tv contract with CBS Sports. A former writer for the school newspaper, beat writer for the local paper and one of the top college bball writers in the country who still lives/works in the area would absolutely have been interviewed if not for the fact that he has a tv contract with a rival network.

Didn't watch it. Probably will this weekend. But I did get a kick out of Vernon tweeting "look at me!" every time they showed him on there.

It was a good program, as all of those shows are. I wonder if he's seen it, and how he feels about it. I would guess that he saw it as an opportunity to promote himself/UK. Interestingly, I don't recall a *current* coach commenting about Cal.

Pretty sure I saw Preston Laird as well.

Edit: Barron, Barclay, Taggert and Antonio Anderson were also present.
Jared Sandridge was right behind him during his speech.

RE: Show of hands....
Cal was burned early at Memphis due to the old rule of players going straight to the NBA out of high school.

Stoudemire
Woods (JC)
Perkins

Were all committed and ended up in the draft.

Wagner
Rose
Evans

Were the ones who made it.

I believe he would have gotten it going sooner had that rule been implemented earlier on. He was able to recruit top guys and without the NBA getting in his way he has dominated the recuiting scene.

Once was enough for me. Showing all the love for Wes but no mention whatsoever for Smitty's contribution to his success was downright shameful and selfish.

I hear he isn't busy. Perhaps we can lure him back to Memphis. 05-stirthepot

I'm not down with the inedible excitement that people are trying to generate here about Tubby's way.
