Pruett claims to have no knowledge of the situation. He always was a sly one.

I think it's dumb that he thinks a 73 year old retread is the answer and makes me question his judgment on other things. But I'm happy that a governor is taking an active interest in Marshall because usually it's all WVU.

I'm not for Pruett getting the job but Solich and Bill Snyder are both in their 70s and have done a fine job.

As for the Governor, he just wants Marshall and all state schools to be less of a drain of the state budget. We have been talking about growing enrollment for 20 years and it hasn't changed, it may have even dropped.

Justice should stick with coaching high school girls basketball and leave real athletics to those more knowledgeable.

How did Pruett's time end at Marshall? Was he fired just for declining performance or were there other issues. He really had it going for a while. It appeared he was significantly better than Snyder (on the field any way).

He wasn't fired. He gave the administration some ultimatums on facilities and other stuff and they didn't come through on what they promised so he quit. We now have the stuff he was asking for and he tried to come back a few times, but he kind of left us high and dry near signing day and ruffled a lot of feathers. No doubt had he been coaching all this time our early CUSA career would have been a little smoother. Pruett knew what he was doing. Snyder and Doc do not.

And that all happened under an interm-president. Right, wrong or indifferent, that has always irritated me.

Solich was 60 years old and just two years removed from Nebraska when he took the job.

Snyder was 70 and just four years removed from the sane job.

In 2018 Pruett would be 75 and, outside of a year as DC st UVA, nearly a decade and a half removed from the same job.

It might be crazy, but its also great that the guy is adamant and supportive of the team and expects greatness. I wish ODUs governor was so outspoken

+1

Our former Governor (resigned this week - pending impeachment) made a joke about our football program being shutdown to a group of UAB nursing students within a few weeks of the execution.

He was a big-time bammer.

It's the same old typical "older generation" whom want to go back to the olden days. Bring back Bobby Pruett. Go back to the MAC. Go back to 1-AA etc etc etc blah blah blah.

It's a bunch of nothing.

Pruett resigned 15 days before 2005 spring practice was to begin. He left the program in an awful mess. In his last 3 recruiting classes, 32 of the 75 players never made it to Huntington. Of the 43 players that did make it 11 of them never played a down at Marshall and 4 of them were dismissed from the team. So that is 28 recruits out of 75 that actually played for Marshall in that time frame. Albert McClellan did come from his 2005 class but then again McClellan never played for Pruett.

A lot or should I say most of Marshall's fans that were here during the Pruett years (96-04) remember him as the best coach in Marshall history. When he was set up for success by Jim Donnan. Donnan had already recruited Chad Pennington, John Wade (Marshall's Center, played 11 years in the NFL), Lavorn Colclough (WR), Doug Chapman (RB) and an O- and D- that had almost all IA talent on it.

I myself lost all respect for Pruett when he tried to take the Houston job in the middle of the night without telling the Marshall President or AD. He accepted the Houston job and a reporter at ESPN found out about it and reported it on ESPN. By that time Pruett was on his way back to WV to get his wife and get out of dodge. When he arrived at the Airport in Charleston (1:04 AM) the entire media of the Charleston Gazette, the Charleston Daily-Mail, WSAZ, WOWK and WCHS was there to greet him and ask why he left the way he did. He done a 180 degree turn and said he was still Marshall's coach.

If the Marshall president or AD would have had any balls at all, he should have been the one at the airport and fired him on the spot.

Docs attrition rate is just as bad. Not a glowing statement for either coach.

It sounds more like he's supportive of his friend as is trying to use his authority to get him his job back.

For Marshall's sake, I hope the West Virginia Governor does not cause you to pull the trigger on your current coach to bring back a 75 yr. old former coach even if Pruett was a good one. On the Other Hand, it would be mighty comforting to this MT grad if Tennessee's Governor was an MT Alum! The Thundering Herd ought to be able to ride the "Power and Influence" Train for something really good at Marshall.

RE: WV Governor trying to overthrow Marshall's AD and FB team
Pruett runs within the same circles as Justice, Reynolds & the other heavy hitters. I'm not trying to cast stones, but I would prefer we didn't re-affiliate the athletics program with people who had us on NCAA probation 15-20 years ago. Pruett was a Vice President there for years after leaving the Herd job. Two MU Board of Governor's members Dagostine (former MU basketball player, works for Champion Industries) & Scaggs (Family was/were on the board at Champion) were invited to a meeting in December w/ Justice regarding this issue. http://wvmetronews.com/2017/04/12/source...-marshall/

I just wouldn't go doing something that will draw the NCAA's eye. We get enough crap over our recruiting as it is.

This will do nothing, but hurt Marshall. If Pruett is in fact speaking with Justice about this, I hope MU shuns him and moves on. He was overated anyway.
