The thing is there is more than 1 that would welcome this to happen. That's the sad sad part.

I enjoy watching Marshall athletics but they do not drive the university. The Forensic Science program isn't #1 in the nation and the only place in the world accredited in computer forensic science in the world due to Marshall football or basketball. Nor does baseball or softball drive Marshall's journalism program.

I am not happy with this development.

I do think it is time to fire Doc, he has turned the football program into a train wreck. His attrition rate is horrible and he has lost control of the program.

It's a lot better than Pruett's attrition rate, when you only have 61% of 3 classes show up in Huntington and 13% of those never play a down that make it and 7% are dismissed that do show up.

The fact that Doc has 5-7 kids leave each year is nothing compared to some places. My guess Nick Sabin forces out more kids at Alabama than we have leave.

Truthfully I'm glad none of the arm chair coaches or ADs are in actual power. Marshall would def. look like a train wreck then.

WOW! That would be a HUGE mistake!!! While I'm starting to have concerns about Doc's apathy trying to fix the offense I don't think Pruett is the answer. I think Marshall needs to look for a young up and coming coach when the time comes to replace Doc. If anything Marshall needs to stop the mindset to elevate the program it needs to hire an alumnus that will stay forever or a person with ties to WV. It hasn't worked very well in 30 years of trying for Herd Basketball.

Jeez, let's pump the brakes a bit. Let's see what happens this year... give the guy a chance to right the ship. And no thanks to Pruett... I'd rather stay away from NCAA sanctions.

Our moronic governor needs to keep his fat sewer shut and his nose out of our administrative decisions..

Anyone who sides with Justice on this manner, well this is the same guy who just brought in a pile of horse crap and dumped it on the state budget proposal and then vetoed it. Granted the budget needed vetoed but JJ is a backwoods hickjack who should have stayed in Greenbrier Co and kept coaching girls basketball at Greenbrier East.

I had often heard some wild and whacky stories about Justice, I usually wrote them off as people having an ax to grind with him. The more visible he is now the more I wonder how much those stories hold water.

This state didn't have a choice this last election. On one side you had republican Bill Cole who would have destroyed this state and on the other side you had republican turned democrat (who switched parties 2 1/2 months before he announced he was running for Gov) Jim Justice. So in reality WVians had to vote for the less evil slightly more dense republican.

Herd fans really need to read this short letter written by Student Athletic Advisory Committee President Ally Keikover. Ally for those at Marshall that don't know because you either only follow football or basketball played volleyball for Mitch Jacobs from 2014-17. As many who like to think Marshall athletics are a dump, then they don't follow the whole department.

I don't think Pruett is the answer now, could have been 7 years ago instead of bringing in Doc. With that said, I really don't have a lot of faith in Doc or Hamrick right now.

I am not a fan of hiring Bob again.

I am talking about the attrition rate of the on the team, not the kids that signed and didn't show up. Big difference.

I didn't want Pruett then either. This is the same man that tried to leave Marshall high and dry in the middle of the night and go coach in a stadium built in 1941 as a works project for Houston HSs. That's what Robertson Stadium was built for. And then this is the same guy that did walk out and quit on Marshall 15 days before the spring practice in 2005. Why would anyone want him back especially the mess that he left the program in.

We had a down year last year and now you don't have faith in Doc or Hamrick. You do realize that Marshall athletics extend beyond Marshall football and basketball.

In the last 2 years Marshall has:

Both men and women soccer programs have been in the CUSA championship game.
Marshall just placed 211 student athletes on the Commissioner's Honor Roll, 2nd in CUSA, Rice had 269.
Marshall softball is setting at 33-6, 24th RPI in the nation, 26th in the country. And has a WV native (Morgan Zerkle) up for the Senior Class Award.
Marshall tennis has been ranked as high as 19 in the nation and the only program on campus with 5 star athletes, we have 4 of those by the way.
D'Antoni's contract was just extended today for 2 years with a raise.
Since Hamrick has been here he has raised over 60 million dollars in donations to renovate and build new facilities, 42 million of that came in the "Vision Campaign".

There is more to this list but you get the picture. Those people who actually follow all of Marshall's athletics understand how valuable Hamrick is. Those who only follow football are short sighted and want him gone. And to that I just shake my head.

It really does blow my mind on how many short sighted people there are in the Marshall fan base. And the fact that a lot of them only follow football or basketball. I'm guessing that over half the fan base couldn't tell you the softball coaches name even though she has been at Marshall since 2001 and is the winningest coach in the history at Marshall. Its Shonda Stanton by they way and she has over 550 wins at Marshall in 18 years. That's 31 wins a season. I bet they also couldn't name the Marshall men's soccer coach that just retired this year even though he just completed his 26th year at Marshall. It was Bob Grey. Also the tennis coach who has been here since 2002, his name is John Mercer and he is the only coach to ever have a 5 star athlete on at Marshall. I'm sure if there were ratings at the time Randy Moss would have been one, but there was none then.

Perhaps people are more concerned with who is driving the bus rather than the other employees at the depot. We're not seeing championships on a regular basis from many of those sports, but if football is bad then money is bad and that hurts all the sports. So while people are aware of "other" sports at Marshall. They know where the money comes from and that it is most important to keep that source healthy. Short-sighted would be investing a lot of time and money into a non-revenue sport till the two revenue sports are producing at optimal levels. There is pride and then there is fiscal responsibility. Pride doesn't pay the bills.

Now you are just talking out both sides of your mouth. If it hadn't been for Sonny Randle's recruitment of Carl Fodor, Keith Baxter, Larry Fourqurean and others, We might be talking on the Horizon/Summit/MVC message board right now. Marshall was within a hair of taking a vote on dropping football at the end of the 83 season. If Marshall would have had another year of 2-8 or 3-7 season I'm almost positive that we would have dropped football at the end of 1984.

College sports and football in general have gotten out of hand, mainly thanks to ESPN. There are 8-12 schools in the NCAA that actually turn a profit, all of those schools have at least 85K stadiums. And the rest of us if in a power conference or not are trying to catch up to something no one will win at.

To that the NCAA should just let those 8-12 schools go and let them do what they want. Once that might happen and then the demise of ESPN, maybe just maybe everything will settle down again like it was before ESPN rose to power. The bubble just like in housing, economics, property or whatever will soon burst and leave everyone flat again, its just a matter of time.
