NMSU coaching wishlist
Who are some names that Ags fans here (or elsewhere) are high on the list or that you understand are being kicked around?
I'm assuming Moccia is raising the contract over what Weir made.
Currently mobile....at the San Luis coast.

It will probably stay the same, with a chance of being a little more.

Super Mario mentioned during presser it would be in the neighborhood, right? A little above. A little below. Same.
Numbers seem to just be what they are. I hope Aggies can find someone who is genuinely all in on the university and LC community at whatever that number is.

Jesse Bopp. Players want him, many Aggie fans want him. He was the reason for Weirs recruiting class, not Weir. Bopp and Hsu.

No chance of Bopp following Weir to UNM?

I do think Bopp is going to be the choice. All the players want him.

And sometimes my son wants ice cream for breakfast, but I have to be the adult and tell him "No" because it's not actually what is best for him.
Are Aggie fans really all jumping on board w/Bopp before knowing who else might be in the mix? The storyline is all way too similar to Weir for me to get on board, if I were an Aggie fan. The only thing Bopp doesn't have is 10 years in LC that PDub had. If PW didn't show loyalty to NMSU/LC, I would be concerned Bopp has even less reason to stay if/when someone else comes knocking.
And I'm surprised (but maybe not) that players are publicly backing promotion of an assistant. Tanveer went down that road & how did that work out for him? Player input is important to the process, but this is a decision/hire that will hopefully have an impact far longer than the playing days of these teenagers.
I genuinely wish Mario & staff all the best of luck and success in finding the right coach to lead Aggies in continued success for years/decades to come. I guess some of the chatter at this point is a little surprising.

Didn't the UNM players want Neal when Alford left? How did that work out?

For every bad choice to elevate an assistant coach to head coach there is also a good choice. Even though I am upset with Weir screwing us over, he did a good job in his one year here; after being an Aggie assistant for 9 year..
Steve Fisher was a Michigan assistant under Bill Frieder before Bill left for Arizona State and Fisher recruited the Fab 5. Mark Few started out as a Gonzaga assistant and got the head coaching job when Dan Monson left for Minnesota. South Carolina's Frank Martin started out as an assistant coach at Kansas State under Bob Huggins before taking over there.
I think Moccia needs to see who all applies for the Aggie job but I am not opposed to Jesse Bopp getting the job if he is qualified and the best man for the job. Weir went through the same screening process last year and the rest is a nightmare.

Agree 100%. Players/fans have opinions and very public platforms (social media) to express them. Just hope they are as equally prepared to support the outcome/coach that emerges from the process if it ends up being someone else. I'd be more worried about the reactions of teenagers with the ability to request releases and/or transfer if it isn't "their guy" than lifelong, die hard Aggie fans dedicated to NMSU no matter what.

RE: NMSU coaching wishlist
Whoever it is they need to pay him more that way he isn't tempted to bounce on us. I'm tired of Mario always complaining on how broke we are that shis is getting old. How about when Mario was making his pitch to get in the Sun Belt, he was nothing but bragging on how big our athletic budget was and we would have been towards the top of the Sun Belt budget wise. With the numbers on the athletic budget he pitched to the Sun Belt we would be around middle of the pack in the Mountain West. UNM has a basketball budget of 3.7Mil and we have a budget of 3Mil but yet UNM base pay which comes from that budget is $625K and we pay $250K wtf is that ****. Put into perspective Bakersfield has a basketball budget half of our but yet pays Barns around the same. Mario is either lying that our budget is so big or lying that we are so broke. Seems to me there is one to many hands in the cookie jar.

New Mexico State is one of the most attractive mid-major programs in the nation. I really don't think it matters who we hire. NMSU is going to be successful.

But we should hire Ryan Miller, TCU assistant. He has coached at Pepperdine, UNLV, New Mexico, Auburn, Memphis, and TCU. He is one of the top recruiters in the nation.
Plus it will piss UNM fans off if we do hire him.

NMSU will be able to pay their coaches more once we finish paying off the $4.3 million debt which will be paid off within the next four years.

RE: NMSU coaching wishlist
The money is there right now. The higher ups don't want to dish it out. Our leaders run this thing backwards for instance Mario makes more than what Weir did plus he had better bonuses, especially with he gets a cut of the revenue for all sports. On one of his statements when he was trying to keep Weir before this all happened he said something like I don't know where the money is going to come from, maybe we can give him a little bit of the revenue. He didn't want that because that cuts into him. Basketball revenue alone for tickets is over 1.5Mil. What basketball program that is trying to prosper pays their AD more than their coach??? UNM don't, GCU don't, Bakersfield don't but we do. I'm sure if the FBI went in and did an investigation on where this money is going you would see an amount of people resigning. Here is a good read from one of our former regents. http://www.kvia.com/sports/sources-nmsus.../445981909
