Chicago State may not even remain open as a school in coming years, let alone be able to continue fund athletics.

The WAC is filled with schools from the former Great West Conference, which no longer exists. NMSU ought to be very concerned about that.

The MVC lost Creighton and Wichita State, so teams leaving mid-majors is nothing new and happens everywhere. New Mexico State, UMKC, Cal State Bakersfield, Seattle and Grand Canyon were never a part of the Great West. The three schools that were a part of the Great West were there until they found a conference home.

Chicago State is going through a two year state budget crisis as are Western Illinois, Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois. That could end up hurting a number of D1 schools.

The MVC went 5-5 this year against the MWC. The WAC went 5-3 against the MWC. They WAC is not that bad. The WAC is better than the Big Sky. The WAC is just as good as the Big West Conference. The WCC is a conference of private schools. The MWC is a football conference. Where do you go out west if you want to leave?
Also, it is important to Western schools that the WAC survives because that is a Western autobid to the NCAA tournament.
