RE: Spring Game - April 14 (AKA UC Celebrates Bearcatmark's Birthday in Style)
So what level of attendance will make the Spring game a success? I've never attended a Spring game at UC so I really don't know how many have attended in the past.

I recall having over 10k at least once or twice during the BK years. That was a lot of fun. I recall in Butch's early years having some really bad weather which put a hurt on attendance (one year they even moved it into the bubble) and then we really de-emphasized the spring game altogether. I seem to recall one year it wasn't even a game but just basically a practice. The last few years Sheakley has been pretty full but it has become much less of an 'event' as it was during the BK years. Always look forward to the spring game. One day of football in an oasis of otherwise non-interesting (to me anyways) sports seasons.

Yep, that was recollection as well. It really started to build some momentum and then it due to weather and how the event was run it all fell apart.
I like the idea of bringing in the high school teams and to have a fish fry (although I would prefer a day other than Good Friday due to the fact some people, including myself, will be out of town).

My phone yesterday had rain Friday, now it has sunny and 81 - 60
No excuses not to come. I doubt the Club will have food but $7 for a Cod sandwich, chips and a side is a price that folks can afford to bring the whole family and eat. Add a $2 cookie, sweet.
Even I prefer a cold beer with a fried fish sandwich than wine, especially the rot gut they sell as wine in the Club. They sell in a plastic pre package glass something called Copa de Vino, a more accurate name would be Copa de Vinegar.

Will be at the spring game. Hoping the weather is good.
There was one red black game during the BK days when there was men's soccer game after and a baseball game before the football scrimmage. You could make a whole day of seeing sports on campus. Weather really cooperated too. UC had dollar dogs, drinks and snacks. Great attendance for that one.
Kind of hoping donators might be there offering cheese pizza. Not a big fan of fish sammiches so I find alternatives to handle meatless fridays in Lent.

I've been talking with some people. Over the next 2 weeks, several candidates for the director position will be on campus with the band to see how they perform as a director with this band. I imagine the decision will probably be made soon after that.
As far as a new direction becoming apparent, it really depends on how the next director wants to run the band. Better music selection will probably be immediate, but other matters like marching proficiency, retaining better talent, adjusting instrumentation, etc. can take one or several years to fully implement.
Awesome, thanks for the insight. Looking forward to what's next.
I just got word about who the three final candidates for the job are. I'm not mentioning names, of course. All three are very qualified, and I believe would do a great job.
One candidate is a given, and I have a lot of faith that he would make great strides with this band.
Another candidate is already a marching band director of a very large P5 marching band, one of (if not) the largest in the country in terms of number of members.
Another candidate is also a college marching band director, at a school well known for football (and not too far from here). He seems like a fantastic candidate as well.
I've been checking out some of their work and have a lot of confidence in the future of the marching band, regardless of who is chosen. We will definitely hear more exciting music. Best of luck to all three of them, it looks like a tough decision.
