Agree 100% as I posted earlier. The Rocket Report had a great article on the 100 year BB anniversary. Unfortunately they are no longer around.

That would be one helluva team. Long would have to beef up a lot for today's game and most of them are probably pretty slow, being so old, but still...
lol....reminds me of when they asked Larry Bird if the Dream Team would have beat the very good Olympic team from 2012 (I think that was the year) and he said they probably would have beat us in game seven of a best of seven series. The shocked reporters asked him why he thought that Dream Team was not as good as that Olympic team - and Bird replied, you have to remember, we are all 55 years old now....
not sure I remember that quote exactly - but close enough to make the point

I recall that. Bird was a confident guy.

Really awesome initiative launched by UT this morning to celebrate 100 years of Rocket Football:
UT will recognize an All-Century Team as part of the celebration. Fans will have a chance to vote for the team, which will include the top 50 Rockets of all-time, going back to the first season of organized football at UT in 1917. Fans can also take part in selecting the 10 greatest victories in Rocket history.
I can't wait to vote!
Voting begins May 1st and ends May 15th.

There were some great defensive players in the 80s and some great O-lineman, too. Everything was run-blocking then. Brian Vehar was 1st All-MAC two years in a row. Chuck Rowland transferred to Toledo after lettering at Michigan as a true freshman and was with the Cowboys for a short period of time after college.
When your talking about defenses from the 80s, you can't forget about DE Darryl Meadows. One of the best pure athletes I've ever witnessed.

RE: Celebrating 100 years of Rocket Football
Tom Beutler was the first recognized All-American football player in University of Toledo history. He was named first-team All-MAC as a middle guard three times, 1965, 1966 and 1967. In 1967 he was named the MAC "Linemen of the Year." He started in the East-West Shrine Bowl Game in San Francisco and blocked a field-goal attempt to preserve a 16-14 win for his team. Beutler started in the Coaches All-American Game in Atlanta, GA. He was awarded the Nicholson Trophy in 1967 as "the player contributing the most toward the success of the team." Following his college career he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns and played five seasons with the Browns, Baltimore Colts, and Memphis Southmen of the USFL.
