I would actually say that IL St is in a better position to move to FBS than N Iowa. But it's probably close to zero chance right now, for either.

I don't think that anything is set in stone. If NDSU were to make the decision to give FBS football a go, they would not tether themselves to SDSU. The same could be said about basketball or the other sports.

Your opinion might be that they would stay together at all costs however there are no statements from NDSU officials ever stating that at all costs they are staying with SDSU.

Hate to break this to you NDSUguy ... but SDSU has better facilities than NDSU does, right now. And slightly better geography.

No FBS conference is going to add one without the other. Fact.

And if either gets serious about giving FBS independence a run, you can bet the farm that it will be both doing it in partnership, possible with home/home every year.

I'm left scratching my head on the facilities comment.... Certainly your comments aren't comparing the Fargodome to Dykhouse stadium? In every way NDSU has the advantage for football (especially when talking about moving to a FBS league who will have major trepidation about playing outside in late fall)

From a basketball perspective, I don't see much difference between the current Frost arena and the SHAC. Slightly different configurations but with similar capacity and athlete amenities off of the court.

Baseball facilities are far and away better at NDSU
Softball facilities are better at NDSU
Track and Soccer are a wash
Wrestling a wash (but they are in the Big12 anyways)

In regards to FBS conferences adding both or none... FBS conferences don't care about travel partners since they only play football once per week.

That is unless you are referencing the MVC (which would care about travel partners) but is not a FBS conference since that only applies to football.

RE: MVC to hold emergency meeting on Sunday in Saint Louis (Rothstein)
Football and basketball facilities are all that matter.

I repeat: SDSU's football facilties (gameday and training, mind you) are superior to NDSU's, right now. That is a fact. NDSU has fallen slightly behind, especially in terms of training facilities.

It had nothing to do with travel partners ... there is no such thing in football. It has to do with maintaining an even number of teams, for divisions and scheduling.

You do realize a lot of northern schools play outdoor FB in the fall? That is one of the oddest comments I've seen a long time and makes me think NDSU fans have become weak. The FargoDome is a FB field in a large shed. It isn't even a dome, it is a big shed with a FB field. The Dykhouse is a much better facility and unlike the Fargo Dome, it was designed to be expanded to 30K. I would say that Frost and the SHAC are similar right now. However, with SDSU beginning renovation this year that is going to change fast. Adding two new practice gyms to the south and a dedicated wrestling gym to the west plus the addition of suites and additional seating. Baseball? You don't own the minor league stadium you play in. How about the new Indoor Practice Facility at SDSU? Sorry, not even close.

Are NDSU tied to SDSU? Only in that minus SDSU there is no bridge to NDSU. Your too far north for anyone to be interested in you. The Gateway/MVFC didn't want you based on location. They took you because SDSU said we were not going unless NDSU got an invite. You can think FBS but you have no place to go. The MAC? Nope. The MWC? Not a chance. What else is there out there? SBC? CUSA? Neither are interested based on geography alone.

SDSU are also winning the basketball wars. Eleven NCAA tournaments between our men and women since becoming eligible 13 years ago. Seven women, four men. NDSU? Three. The only thing you have over us is the win over Oklahoma, that's it. And that is being forgotten every year you don't make a return trip to the tournament.

Well said jacks29.

SDSU has really come a long way from the NCC days. Pretty incredible amount of improvement in Brookings.

No news yet on the MVC decision. If teams are in play for the '17-'18 season, the latest would probably be sometime in May

I'd add North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Neb-Omaha.

Or merge with Horizon for 19 team league and hopefully this would get MVC/Horizon a decent tv contract as far as exposure, not so much in the terms of money, but maybe get lucky in the money side of a tv contract and break even with what MVC members get currently....does MVC even currently get revenue from their tv contract as it is now?

I would say a soft deadline for things to get done would be May 15. Don't think we've seen anything really before later than that.

So, 3.5 weeks to complete candidate research, vetting of first round candidates, initial internal discussions, contacting second round schools to setup initial meetings, initial meetings with second round schools, narrow the list again to finalists, arrange for site visits to the finalists, conduct site visits at the finalists, and take final vote -- if the votes are likely there.

Don't you think they would have accomplished several of these steps by now? I'm not saying they're near a decision on a replacement, but surely they have done some vetting of candidates.

If the Valley is still at square one regarding a potential replacement(s), then it's not happening in time for 2017-18. It tells me the presidents are not in agreement about this, and that's somewhat troubling. Wichita left in part because of this. That being said, more time may be exactly what the Valley needs. It would allow the conference to develop a clear vision about who they want to be and which schools fit that vision, rather than making a knee-jerk reaction based solely on finding a school to replicate Wichita's recent successes.

Edit: Forgive me for not immediately picking up on the tongue that is clearly in cheek, Bison.

It wasn't a tongue in cheek post, actually. Was being serious.

I simply don't know what stage they're at. Don't think there has a been a lot of public info leaked or known.

They've done visits already. They've already visited UIC, Valpo, NKU and Wright State sometime in February/March. Don't know who else. I'm sure they've had info on all the potential candidates probably since Creighton left...most definitely since 2015 when Wichita State first brought up the notion of leaving. They may be slothful about the announcement (according to us), but I'm sure they've got "I's" dotted and "T's" crossed.
