Look harder. Here are the last 2 seasons:
03-banghead
2016
Appalachian St. at Tennessee SECN Thursday 9/01/16 7:30 PM Opening Weekdend
South Carolina at Vanderbilt ESPN Thursday 9/01/16 8:00 PM Opening Weekdend
LSU at Texas A&M ESPN Thursday 11/24/16 7:30 PM Thanksgiving
Arkansas at Missouri CBS Friday 11/25/16 2:30 PM Thanksgiving

Yeah, so far it's mostly (7 of 9) on the first and last weeks of the season... but that's how a lot of other conferences started out, too. SEC wants the Thursday kickoff and Thanksgiving is football weekend, no one works on that Friday so it becomes a Saturday

Predictable answer. You also conveniently omitted the weekday games in mid-season 2015. But yeah, the SEC is perfect, so my bad...

I don't count opening weekend or Thanksgiving games as "weekday" games. Those have ALWAYS been around.

I agree, opening week and Thanksgiving don't count. Black Friday is the same as a Saturday.

Black Friday? Yuck that is my absolute most hated day to play a college football game. Every year it happens it is one of the worst attended games of the year even if it is a rivalry game (does not help that the weather is often poor then). I would rather play a weekday game elsewhere in the year than play on that day. Competing against shopping is just a losing proposition at many places.

The weather would be poor the following day as well. Not to mention Black Friday spans the whole weekend now.

Didn't want to type out that far but yes the SEC played two Thursday night games in 2015 not on the opening weekend or during Thanksgiving. However they were both games at their lower attended schools and less football support schools in Missouri and Kentucky.

When Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and Florida start playing home games on Thursday nights or Friday nights, I would agree. The ACC is unique in that it makes of all the schools have a home weekday game once every few years (really have taken the old Big East approach which I think is smart). I know ECU does not mind playing away games during the week but prefers home games on Saturday and will do one Thursday night game a year if it has to, but we really do not want Friday night games since it competes with local high school football.

A few years ago we did play on Sunday on ESPN for the opening weekend and had a huge crowd of 50,000+ against Tulsa.

Not unique. The Pac-12 also requires each member to host a Thursday or Friday game once every two years, though a team could get "off the hook" if it's their year to host on Thu/Fri and neither ESPN nor Fox chooses one of their home games that year for Thu/Fri.

The ACC doesn't play a Thursday/Friday once every other year like the PAC (I'm going off what you say). Most of the ACC teams will play several weekday games this year. Their ESPN contract requires that, the ACC doesn't have a say. There will be more weekday games when the ACC-Network starts in 2019.

P.S. I hate the SEC; no need for telling me the "SEC isn't perfect" Hokiemark

The ACC has 6 Thursday/Friday games in 2017, not counting Week 1 and Thanksgiving Week. That is exactly as many as the Pac-12.

To me the less weekday games the better. Saturdays are penciled in for college football. I understand those who hate the noon/11 a.m. game starts but I think those would be mitigated with more streaming options in the future. What about the health of the student-athletes?

Some of those will be moved to Friday and they will have several more untelevised games on espn3 than the PAC.

Here are the actual number of weekday games played by each ACC team this upcoming season:

SUMMARY:
Boston College 2X (1 H, 1 A)
Clemson 1X (A)
Duke 1X (H)
Florida State 1X (A)
Georgia Tech 2X (1 H, 1 A)
Louisville 1X (A)
Miami 3X (1 H, 2 A)
NC State 1X (H)
N Carolina 1X (A)
Pittsburgh 2X (2 H)
Syracuse 1X (H)
Virginia 1X (H)
Virginia Tech 1X (A)
Wake Forest 1X (H)

Every team plays at least 1, but only 4 teams play more than 1.

Also, I'm not aware of any publicly available version of the current ACC TV contract with ESPN, nor even a statement of what is required for Thursday and Friday night games. If you have this in writing, please share! (PM if it's confidential).

That doesn't seem very likely with 3 games per week being moved to the ACC Network.

RE: Big Ten decides to play fewer Friday night football games
I can say I hate playing off Saturday any week. First week is only slightly better because you aren't dealing with a short week, but it still greatly impacts game day experience and thus a huge negative. I'd feel the same on Black Friday or Thanksgiving itself.

That said, I enjoy watching other teams so I get why they do it.

This was a kind of experiment for Big Ten which did fewer non-Saturdays than anyone before. I hope they back off fully and only have teams do it when both teams agree.

No problem on the SEC thing. As far as knowing about the weekday games I'm going off an article about scheduling that said certain games could be moved for TV.
