Buffalo drops four sports
Baseball, Men's Swimming and Diving, Men's Soccer, Women's Rowing gone for economic reasons.

Second MAC school in recent years to drop Baseball (Akron first).

Should be noted UB cutting from 20 to 16 sports, whereas he have 15.

True.

Our hockey program alone probably costs more than the 4 sports they dropped.

I believe the minimum number of teams required for the NCAA top tier is 16. The women have an indoor and outdoor track team which makes two to get us to the 16. Buffalo spent a lot of money on upgrades to their men's soccer team and even hired a former coach of ours.

More and more AD's are dropping the high cost programs. College football costs a fortune to field a team, Hockey and basketball (due to travel) are costly as well.

A Soccer or Lacrosse program costs a fraction of Football and allows a small school to compete with the big names.

But in this case, conversely, Buffalo AD cuts low-cost programs and not Football or Basketball. Go figure! One of the tweeters mentioned that Buffalo football players stay in a local hotel the night before a game-FOR HOME GAMES.

Actually the trend is going the other way.

For example in Michigan alone Concordia (Ann Arbor), Siena Heights, and Davenport have started Football programs in recent years.

Lawrence Tech is standing one up right now too.

Old mlive article mentioned WMU football with HC Cubit

Did PJ change that tradition?

I'd be very surprised if he did - owner of the Radisson was one of his biggest boosters (besides being on BOT).

Absolutely true. Hockey is expensive.

Last year (before the MAC Tournament run) there was chatter on here about whether or not we should keep baseball. It was pretty split.
