RE: Open Practice at Elder
I would have gone to the west side, but I did not have time to get the necessary shots and travel documents.

You need a visa and Hep C Vacination.

There's no vaccination currently available for hepatitis C.

They absolutely would have. I've seen some of the stuff these snowflakes have been posting about how terrible the premium food selection is up in the club seats. I'm sure the West Side location, along lack of valet parking and the requirement to sit in the concrete bowl at the Pit with the rest of the common folk was a big turnoff to many of the big-time complainers on this board.
Some of that is true. Having spent my high school years living in the area I knew to not drive and park on the street a luxury car. The areas are the stadium are quite lower class.
There is a Skyline nearby but the Original Skyline I frequented was replaced.
The Pit is the HS equivalent of Wrigley or Nippert so the hardships are worth a visit.
I went to Elder and graduated in '04, and while the area can be sketchy at night the areas immediately surrounding the Elder campus are relatively safe in daylight. If 10,000 high school students can manage to get around safely for the most part on Friday nights, 2,000+ should be able to handle it on a Saturday morning.
One of the students was shot and killed coming back from an Elder game the year after a graduated (in '04 I think) when he got caught up in the middle of a fight. Not sure of the details surrounding that, but I don't think he was involved except to break up the fight. It was definitely a tragedy. Outside of that, I don't think too much happens. It is much more dangerous to be in the developed areas of OTR at night than in the neighborhood surrounding Elder.

Yes please. I live a mile from Wayne HS.
I agree... I'm only about 2.5 away myself

I'm surprised Hep C isn't some underhanded reference to Mick's dad.

Agreed. I went to Elder as well and the area really isn't as bad as the perception. It's fine during day time. Parts of Price Hills are rough, but it's not all that bad right around Elder. It's not a great area, but it's really not much difference from the areas other GCL schools are in like Roger Bacon, LaSalle, St. Ursula, etc..
I guess what surprises me more than anything is UC choosing to practice at Elder right now over other schools with how far Elder's program has fallen off. The player development over there has been pretty terrible for the last half decade now and the talent is drying up as well.

Marcus - I heard LaSalle was the first choice. Apparently there was something wrong with their field, so they moved to Elder.

I imagine the big draw for Elder was The Pit. Other than that, it's been a decade since they were a serious threat in FB, though they have generated some NFL prospects since then. I think the last time they seriously contended for state was '03-'04 when they actually won.

Doesn't surprise me. And the good players they do have are not being developed and are not being promoted at all by the school or coaching staff. If there is one school in the city that badly needs a coaching change, it's over there. They might get lucky and have that one can't miss kid every 5 years or so, but it's alarming how far the program has fallen off in recent years.
