Read the linked article, it is stated in there.

"Copies of contracts for each opponent, except UCLA, were obtained earlier today from the University of New Mexico via a public records request."

I really don't see why people are shocked. I think you will start seeing more deals coming out now that the first has been shown. For example, I could see NCSU try to get a 2 - 1 with Liberty due to the fact they rarely get to play in Va. One reason why I think you will be seeing ODU and Liberty on our schedule. This is the same reason I can see UNC do a similar deal with Coastal. I see the following happening from an ACC perspective.

FSU, Louisville, Clemson, Va Tech - Home Only
NCSU, UNC, UVA, GT, Miami, Mulitple H/H
Duke, Wake, BC, Syracuse, Pitt H/H

I see similar pattern for the G5. From NC perspective, ECU should go for the Multiple H/H while App and Char do H/H.

If Liberty is successful, look at other schools to start considering Indy.

With the status of NMSU as a FB only member with the SBC, and with LU's overt entry into FBS and their need for FBS games, can you explain the "shocking announcement" mention?

The University of New Mexico scheduled Liberty, not New Mexico State University.

With NMSU becoming a football Independent starting with the 2018 football season it would not surprise me that a deal to play Liberty has already been signed but not announced between the two schools.

The University of New Mexico Lobos of the MWC and New Mexico St Aggies of the SB are two separate colleges 300 miles away from each other.

I wonder if its all connected somehow. Maybe this is an indirect way for New Mexico to help out NMSU.

NMSU needs home games. Scheduling an annual series with other independents like Liberty makes sense. But Liberty needs more home games too to remain a FBS independent. So New Mexico offers a game to help Liberty's transistion.

Well jeez ... couldn't they play that end around through UMass??

Being independent, you have to balance scheduling ahead and not needing too many buy outs in case a conference invite arrives. We are full for 2018 except for an FCS game. Think we'll wait a bit before additional scheduling in 2019 and 2020.
