Just testing the waters. Not signing an agent

He's good, but I'd he nba good? I haven't seen his name on any mock drafts or even mentioned as a possibility of being drafted

No need to sigh....

A lot of kids do this to get an evaluation, he hasn't signed with an agent. I assume this is what Jon is doing. Once that evaluation comes back and if he doesn't like his evaluation he can join Marshall again. He has till April 10th.

Also I want Jon back but I think even when Jon exhausts his eligibility I think we will be in great shape with Jarrod West, who was just named the Evans Award Winner (WV State Player Of The Year).

Wow, didn't see that coming. Mixed feels for sure.

On one hand, you hope we can get one more year with Jon running the floor and make a run at this thing.

The other you really hope he makes it in the league.

Regardless, he seems like a really good dude, and I hope he gets drafted.

The other side of this coin is that possible second year remaining at MU. I think his mindset now has to be one more year at Marshall as a fallback.

I don't think he will be here two more years. Makes working in a potential negotiation with VMI fruitless, and a wasted football add.

T6here is no downside to this...

he gets input on what he needs to improve on if he isn't there (skill level) yet. But shooters are dangerous and always in need. Add to that shooters that can get a shot off the bounce and a kid can earn a bunch of money

RE: Marshall's Jon Elmore declares for NBA Draft
Only players taken in the first round will be almost certain to make an NBA team, that's only 32 players. Jon isn't one of the best 32 players in the country this year. Players taken in the 2nd round are about a 50/50 chance. Jon would be well advised to stay at Marshall at continue to build on his success. IF Marshall can make the Tournament next year and get a win that would increase his chances of getting drafted.

I fully expect to see Jon back at Marshall once he gets his evaluation. And if the VMI series is to help Jon get his year back I expect to see him in 2018-19 also. As I said a lot of kids do this. Its just we haven't had anyone recent talented enough to even think about doing it.

I'm surprised Damier Pitts or Tyler Wilkerson never declared to get an evaluation. Those two along with DeAndre Kane are the only ones in the last 10 years Marshall has had that would have had the skill to declare.

Only 30 NBA teams.

He will return, his chances aren't 50/50, no where even close to that. Not a great defender and He will have to drastically improve his speed to get drafted.

IDK, I see his skill set and play style of Jose Calderon. He can dish it, drain 3's and most importantly, has really good form and a very quick release. He's got potential.

Potential yes, his release is not that quick. The Tech guards could beat him off the dribble, too bad that aren't great shooters. Most NBA guards are Bracey quick and can shoot, he would really get burned in the NBA. That's is his most glaring weakness

He was quick enough to drain 7 3s on the Tech guards in the CUSA tourney, most on break out pull ups. Elmore along with Penava got both Bracey and Jean in foul trouble. His release is quicker than a hiccup. Probably the quickest release since AW Hamilton or maybe Dago Pana was in a Marshall jersey.

Marshall had excellent ball movement this year and most of the movement goes though Elmore. No one on this board from Marshall thinks he is ready for the NBA. But he has potential. He has the intangibles that a lot of NBA players wish they had.

Every player has potential. Yes Marshall shattered the 3 point record against Tech. I watched him play in all three tourney games, He's a good collegiate player but nothing about his basketball game screams NBA potential. NBA is a one on one game and if someone doesnt have the ability to create their own shot and defend (at 6-2 you need to be quick) they wont have many opportunities

There is no way this dude plays in the NBA next year. None.

Our coach, Dan D'antoni and Mike D'antoni are brothers. Our system is the same system his brother Mike uses in the NBA. Seems to be working for the Rockets.

Dan coached with his brother Mike on his staff for years. You don't think coaches and Dan's connections won't reach out to either D'antoni?

You don't think Mike would give Jon a shot? It seems plausible.

To say he has no shot at all is just crazy.

I guess no shot is a bit harsh. I should say I would be surprised if the 5th best point guard in CUSA is able to play in the NBA next year.

It appears the NBA scouts think otherwise. Lol
