The sad thing is, if he plays really well but doesnt dominate at an insane clip, writers may start dogging him. "Well, now we know why he went down to CUSA. He's no lottery pick. Blah blah blah."

It's a dumb take and completely ignores he will be playing against guys 3, 4 or more years older. But I fully expect to see those types of reactions if he doesn't destroy everyone in the league.

I will be shocked if the kid gets over 11ppg and 7rebs next season...

for the very reasons you stated.

We are talking about a kid that for the most part will have to learn to play in the post with 6'7 to 6'9 players with some muscle and meat on their bones. Players that picked up some skills over the 1 to 3 years they played college basketball. For the most part MR is going up against weaklings night in night out in HS. If you watched that all star game there wasn't a lot of meat on the court. What was there wasn't putting a body on anyone.

So I think there's going to be the same learning curve that just about all big men go through. We know this kid can dunk and we know he can get the junk points and we know he can pop out and hit a 3 every now and then. The unknown is post moves, footwork, and scoring skills when you have a stronger body on you on the blocks.

MR might be great in post...it's a unknown at this point because he really hasn't needed to be that player. If he shows he can score over people on the blocks... he might just dominate. But it's something I don't believe he's shown to this point.. Footwork and post moves are huge in the college game for centers.

Two former UTEP players I would take over him are Randy Culpepper and Julian Stone and neither were able to "make it" in the NBA. Stone played in parts of 3/4 seasons, which would be the best that Elmore could hope for regardless of when he leaves Marshall

Would be careful with the "he is not an NBA player"...Some players games translate different from college to the pros and or scouts might see a player that fits into their system..Few years back we had a player Jeremy Evans who was a solid player for us, averaged about 10 pts a game for his career, blocked shots, rebounded but never thought he was all world although he showed a lot of "potential".....He was drafted in 2nd round by Utah and most WKU fans were shocked he was even drafted, he was in the league until this past season and also won the Slam Dunk Competition twice...So you never know...

Big difference when you're 6-9 with a great vertical and quick off the floor. Elmore is 6-2

Thank Goodness! Glad to see this guy go. He made our life miserable at LA Tech. 03-banghead

Best of luck to Jon Elmore.

Elmore has withdrawn his name from the NBA Draft and will return to Marshall.

Elmore Withdaws Name From NBA Draft

A lot of people got all bent out of shape when this 1st happened. Truth is a lot of kids do this to get evaluated by as many NBA scouts as they can. Marshall just hasn't had anyone with the talent to do it.

It should be fun watching 2 PGs on the floor at the same time next year with Jon Elmore and the WV HS player of the year this year in Jarrod West.

Not one good piece of news from or about Jon today but two:

Elmore Granted Extra Year Back He Lost From VMI

HerdZone: Elmore Granted Extra Year Of Eligibility

I like many others assumed that the contract to play VMI in football in 2019 was a measure to get Jon his year back. It seems way to obvious now since Marshall has only played VMI in 2 sports since leaving the SoCon in 1996, once in WBB in 2001 and in Softball at I think GA Tech invitational in like 2005-2006.

Sorry about your luck. 06-basketball

Not only has Jon pulled his name from the draft and got his year back but 2017 recruit Darius Gorge who at one time was thought to be going to Hargave Military Academy for a year and moved to the class of 2018 is instead headed to Huntington next year. Most people still think he will be red shirted like Jannson Williams was this year. But at least he won't be at Hargrave where he could draw interest from other schools (VA Tech, Tennessee, Wake and Louisville were starting to gain interest) and go somewhere else.
