According to Scout, WKU has out recruited each of this years Final 4 Team for 2017! What does this mean, nothing really, but it does show that we are certainly heading in the right direction to get WKU back to the Top 20 and possibly deep runs in the NCAA. All of which will be a credit to C-USA. Here is a closer look at the 2017 class so far.

Stansbury can clearly recruit... do you guys feel like he can coach up/maximize the talent that will be on the roster? A lot of coaches can recruit, but fail at properly utilizing the talent they bring in.

That is to be determined. In the sec he couldn't do a ton but alot of people think caliparo can't coach. He just recruits amazingly. I think this roster will fit him so much better than this years.

I'm sticking to my mantra of....this is indeed good news, however I will contain my excitement until I see these recruits in a WKU uniform on the court.

Zero chance.

The NCAA Selection committee in its current itineration has always favored the Major Conference teams and left a lot of really good teams out.

Join the SEC though, and you can go 17-13 and make the tournament.

Yep. We'd have to have two teams that won 28 games and only lost to each other in conference play and then faced off in the championship game for two bids to happen.

We will see. Whats interesting is that Stansbury has never had a class this good. This will be his highest ever rated class including his highest ever recruit in Robinson. So WKU and Stansbury are in uncharted waters right now.

As for this years class.....

it's rare, very, very, very, rare to see a class like this since Memphis had John Calipari as their coach. Doesn't mean Western will dominate like Memphis did in CUSA. But it is a class like Memphis use to get. I personally think John Calipari is the better coach but sometimes talent wins out.

As for this years class.....

Yeah, I don't remember much more than cautious optimism from WKU fans before this past season but if they fall flat next season then yes we will certainly all join together and bash them soundly.

Especially when you consider that 6 yrs ago Southern Miss got an at large bid and a 9 seed with a 25-8 record and were beaten by a team other than Memphis in the CUSA tourney.

Coaching matters! If you read most of these type threads you'll see I don't agree with the roll out the ball thinking some Western fans seem to think will take place. But.....

yes there's a but.

If the same level of talent that we saw the last couple years in CUSA is what we see next season. I think talent alone will win some of the games Western loss this past season. Other words, while Stansbury struggle somewhat because of coaching in the SEC. The overall talent level, night in night out is head and shoulders better than what we seen in CUSA.

I personally thought Western had the pieces to be one of the better teams in CUSA this past season...come tourney time. Did not happens and a lot of that was coaching....

Defense is mostly effort and in that mostly coaching. No matter what talent level ODU has the defense has been there under Jeff Jones. I think with Stansbury he needs overwhelming talent to get those results.

Some coaches are great recruiters and some are great bench coaches...

hard finding a great mix of the two. But when you do don't usually have the huge highs and the huge lows. But as I said sometimes talent just wins out. Well it does till you start playing teams with talent and good coaching...

in my opinion that has what lead to a team coached by Stansbury not doing any good in the NCAA Tourney. But as a fan...

that paper talent Western has coming in (if they make it to the court) sure looks exciting.
