Also looks like the WKU/UK midweek game was cancelled and then #20 UK gets swept this weekend by Tennessee. UT wins 9-0 (Run Ruled in 5 innings), 5-2, 9-4. FIU has lost 4 of their last 6 games, they lost the FIU/FAU series last week 2 games to 1. And lost the FIU/UTSA series this weekend 2-1.

I look for FIU to drop some in voting this week, if not completely.

If Marshall can finish the season with 37+ wins we should be an at large bid team even if we were to fail to win CUSA.

CUSA Standings as of 4-9-17

Marshall 14-1--32-5
FIU 8-4--32-10

Marshall at #21 Kentucky today April 11, in Lexington, Kentucky. The game will be broadcast on SEC+, WatchESPN (ESPN3), and on the WatchESPN app.

Game time 6:00 PM eastern, 5:00 PM central. Just a note for those who might want to tune in.

Marshall (32-5, RPI 24, Receiving 32 votes in top 25) Marshall just out of the Top 25, sitting at 26.
#21 Kentucky (24-11, RPI 19) Kentucky dropped 1 spot only after being swept by #17 Tennessee over the weekend in a 3 game series. And their midweek game cancelled with WKU.

Marshall Cracks The Top 25

For the 1st time ever Marshall has cracked the top 25 in softball. The Herd comes in at #25 and has an RPI of 25 in the latest NCAA rankings.

Also Morgan Zerkle was drafted in the NPFP yesterday by the Scrap Yard Dawgs.

Coach Stanton built the foundation and keeps on building the house in softball. We had great players just playing in an open field with a chain link fence that was the home before "The Dot" (Dot Hicks Field) was built and opened in 2008. We've had Abigail Harter, both Jessica and Amanda Williams, and Rachel Folden all come to Marshall before The Dot was built. All of those were drafted by the NPFP too. Folden was a 1st team All-American all 4 years. Then we've had Andi Williamson, Morgan Zerkle, Jessica Vallie, Ashley Gue and Jordan Dixon come after The Dot.

But no doubt The Dot has helped Coach Stanton and her staff recruit more ready players. The AD department really needs to get it together and give The Dot lights. And if they keep playing like they are in the next few years they will have to expand the stadium. Right now The Dot holds 750 and the last 6 games there have been filled to capacity and have had people watch the game in the outfield while tailgating.

RE: Herd Softball!
Marshall wins the series over MTSU by winning both games of the DH today 8-0 and 3-1. Game 3 tomorrow at 1est/12cent.

CUSA has 4 teams with 30 or more wins:

Marshall 37-7 RPI 25
FIU 39-12 RPI 51
FAU 32-18 RPI 41
LA Tech 30-18 RPI 108

If the CUSA softball tournament goes right then we should place at lest 3 teams in the softball regionals. The only way I see LA Tech getting in is if they get hot in Hattiesburg and win the tournament. I haven't looked but at 30 wins an an RPI of 108, Tech must have had more than a cup cake OOC.

Off the top of my head, we played LSU, Indiana, Texas twice, and South Carolina twice. Although we did host two tournaments and I'm not sure the quality of those teams.

If the Techsters did go on a run and win the whole thing what are the chances of all four getting in?

With Marshall, FIU and FAU all in the Top 50 or just a team outside of it (FIU 51) its possible but probably doubtful. There are only 64 that make it to regionals, 32 auto bids and 32 at large. As it is FIU may need some help raising their RPI with some losing their last series next week that is front of them.

I see FIU plays LA Tech at home next week for the last conference series. Truth is FIU probably needs to sweep that series and hope a few of RPI 43-50 lose their series to move up into the 40s RPI.

43 Kennesaw St.
44 Pittsburgh
45 USC Upstate
46 San Diego St.
47 Oregon
48 Illinois St.
49 USF
50 Northwestern

I would feel better if all 3 would be in the top 45. But a low 40 RPI may be good too. The Marshall 2 wins today also eliminated MTSU from the CUSA tournament. Right now MTSU, UTEP and UTSA are eliminated. This week it will come down to USM, WKU or Charlotte being eliminated. USM is 26-26 (9-14, with a tie breaker over Charlotte). WKU is 26-25 (10-12, with tie breakers over both USM and Charlotte) and Charlotte is 26-22 (8-12, with no tie breakers), Charlotte basically has to sweep and hope WKU and USM lose their series.

RE: Herd Softball!
New softball rankings came out today, with the sweep over MTSU and only allowing 1 run in 3 games the Herd jumps 2 to #23 in the nation.

Marshall #23

CUSA standings (Race for the regular season title, no divisions here)
Marshall 38-7 (18-3 CUSA)
LA Tech 33-18 (16-5 CUSA)
FIU 40-12 (14-6 CUSA)
FAU 33-18 (13-8 CUSA)

Marshall just needs 1 game against UAB this coming weekend to win the regular season. Marshall is undefeated at the Dot this year and I'm sure this group wants to go out that way.

The 1st two in the regular season standings get a 1st day bye in the conference tournament.

Tournament seedings
Day 1
(3) vs (8)
(4) vs (7)
(5) vs (6)
First day is single elimination

Day 2
(1) vs (lowest seed remaining)
(2) vs (second lowest seed remaining)
2 highest seeds play each other
Day 2 is Double elimination

Day 3
Two teams will play for the CUSA auto bid
Championship game is single elimination

RE: Herd Softball!
With a 3-0 win over UAB today Marshall wraps up the CUSA regular season title in softball and takes the #1 seed in the CUSA tournament which starts Wednesday May 10th in Birmingham.

With FIU and LA Tech playing this weekend in Miami. FIU needs to win 2 out of 3 to take 2nd place and get a bye. If LA Tech wins 2 out of 3 in the series then Tech gets the 2nd place and bye.

It looks like FAU is on the outside looking in and will have to settle for 3rd place and the top seed on day one.

If FIU wins one game today then Marshall is Solo Regular Season Champs correct?
